I totally screwed up my new CPU (Maybe) - Page 7

Do you want details on EVERY SINGLE PART I HAVE?

In general, I am taking parts from three HP Pavilion models of varying age to use with my Lenovo 3000 J Series tower. I cannot find the exact model number for my tower, anywhere on any label or given information for the system.
My stock CPU was an AMD Athlon 64 ADA3500IAA4CN
My intended new CPU is a AMD Athlon II ADX620WFK42GI
My motherboard's model number is MS-7283 but I do not know the manufacturer.

Ok. The manufacturer of the motherboard is MSI from what I can tell. Was it from an HP or the Lenovo? The Athlon II is AM2+/AM3. The Athlon 64 is Socket AM2. What was non-functional on the computer you pulled the processor from?
EDIT: Are you sure the CPU fan was plugged in? Do you hear any beeps at all?
EDIT2: Are you using the heatsink from the Lenovo or one of the HP computers?

Final Edit: If the fan was plugged in, try a different fan. If there are any beeps, post how many and their lengths (ex. 2 long, 1 short). If there are no beeps and a different fan didn't change anything, try a different power supply. Maybe the supply that was in the Lenovo doesn't put out enough juice. Let us know how it turns out.

What would you classify as beeps? There was a bit of noise as it failed to power up every time.

The non-functional part on the original tower that the processor came from was the SATA Hard Disk had failed. Everything else functioned perfectly, and when I setup PCLinuxOS and the corresponding items for the successful booting of the operating system from my flash drive, the system worked perfectly. That was a week ago, right before I took the heat-sink off and the CPU out.

By beeps, I am meaning a sound similar to that of a microwave oven or 8-bit video game soundtracks.

Just general noise from the fans starting up, the ones that functioned anyway.

They probably cheaped out and didn't spend the pennies to add a speaker to the board. Try switching processor fans and power supplies to see if that changes anything. If that does nothing, try another processor, but be VERY careful. If there is still nothing, I'd have to say it is the motherboard. Let us know the results.
