G74SX with GTX560M (3GB), help?

Thread Starter
I just received my new ASUS G74Sx-A1 from Amazon UK and it coems with a GTX 560M (3GB) card.

After running a few benchmarks (in particular, Far Cry 2) and comparing it with my friend (who has an Alienware M17x-R3 with GTX460M) he was getting higher FPS than me which led me to wonder why?

I installed EVGA Precision and kept everything at stock and it turns out during the benchmark, I don't get 100% usage at all, it sort of hovers around 50%...

Is this supposed to happen? (The stock stuff = 775 MHz Core / 1550 Mhz Shader / 1250 MHz Memory).

Am I doing something wrong? (Using latest drivers of Nvidia (280.26)) or is this actually what it's supposed to be.

Just wondering, after looking on Google, seems people don't like the new 280.26 driver, should I downgrade to 275 or back further to what ASUS put on it?

Yes try the older driver. the 280.26 driver has issues and shouldn't have been WHQL certified just yet lol. I have it on my desktop and my GPU usage fluctuates like crazy. On my laptop (GTX 460m) i have the 280.19 beta drivers and they do the job

Your friend my use different Contol Panel settings. Like you use Quailty IQ setting & he use High Performance. or his card is overclocked.
I don't know about others but 280.26 is better than any older driver I used to have.

I am installing the 280.19 driver.

I am using 'Let my 3D application Decide'

Should I change it?

I don't understand this....

This guy runs a 1.5 GB card on an MSI GT780R laptop, and gets 47 FPS average with 2 x MSAA + Ultra Settings

I ran it with 3.0 GB card on my laptop with No Anti-Aliasing and Ultra Settings and get like 32 FPS average....

Why? Should I clean install Windows 7 or is it a faulty card?

Maybe settings are different. The 560M can't possibly power 1.5 GB of graphics much less 3GB. The amount of VRAM on mobile cards is usually just retard candy meant to attract the ignorant.

Your issue sounds like a settings or driver problem.

I've tried 3 different drivers, none of which grant any performance boost.

Tried the 268, the 280.19 and the 280.26, all of which do not increase the performance by more than 0.50 FPS average.

Any other suggestions?
