Athlon II x4 630 High Voltage Required

Thread Starter
I know, old cpu that probably has a million threads about it, but here's my issue..

My 630 can hang out at 3.4Ghz relatively stable (prime crashes in 30 min or so; no gaming issues), but it requires a whopping 1.57 volts to get there. I've heard of people getting up to 3.5 on stock volts, but mine can't even boot on that.

Maybe one of you overclocking wizards can help me out?

Screenshot is attached (volts are lower then described because I'm playing with settings).

Turn LLC to 1/4 in your BIOS. Lower your voltage until unstable, then put it back up a notch

This is from my OC to 3.6GHz with a C2 635.
drop your multiplier to 13.5 and raise your bus speed

Even though I am using a 635 i have my multiplier @ 14 instead of the 14.5 it has stock. My chip hit a wall at 3.5ghz and no matter what voltage i throw at it it will not stabilize even if I mess with settings.

That is a lot of voltage for 3.4ghz.

@linkin93 unfortunately my ****ty ASUS m3a76-cm doesn't have LLC options (at least I couldn't find it), so that's a no go.

@Shev7chenko I know! way too much juice for such a modest OC. I haven't thought of dropping my multi though; trying now.

Alpine 64 might be holding you back.
It's barely better than stock.

@Shev7chenko I dropped my multi to 13.5 and brought my fsb to 252 (ram is only 20Mhz above listed spec now). Crashed 5 minutes into prime with 1.52v =[

@sLowEnd That's what I was thinking for a while, but why would it not boot at stock volts, but run fine with at 1.57? Temps could be why my high voltage OC is unstable (gets to 65C), but why is my lower voltage OC so unstable if it doesn't get passed 55C?

Dual core is not the same beast. I have built many Athlon II x2 rigs and overclock them to 3.5ghz on stock cooling and volts. Very cool running chips.

OP definitely your cooling. X4s hit a wall around 3.4 to 3.6 so my other question is...Are you stable at 3.3?
