Acceptable Temp for OC'd i7 2600k?

Thread Starter
Folks,

I've been able to get my i7 2600k OC'd at 4.8GHZ, which is an acceptable speed for me. I've been running Prime95 for about 2 hours now, and my temps are a little toasty. I'm seeing mid 70's celsius under heavy load. Is that a normal / expected temp range under these circumstances? I've got an H-50 cooling the CPU, so I'm hoping I might make it under the radar as far as alarming temps are concerned. I'm not familiar enough with this stuff to know what kind of temps I need to keep my CPU at under load. I'm really excited about getting a stable OC, but I dont want to stay with a setting that will melt through my mobo (I've got an ASUS P8P67 Pro) in 2 months time. Any suggestions?

Yh them temps are fine
Throttling will not occur untill you go above 90 degrees celsius but want to stay below that obv, the max recommended for 24/7 use would be 75-80 degrees as the cpu can handle that and all so there is no worry of the chip degrading at 75-80 so its all good

I have issues with my 2600k on two motherboards. I can't comment on acceptable...I'd kill for mid-70s for 2+ hours of small ffts...with my push/pull h50 setup, oc'd to 4.5ghz at 1.375v, I hit low to mid 80s on small ffts. I've tried a million reseats and proper applications, two boards (p67 pro and z68 pro-v)....to no avail.

I consider anything up to 80c during stress testing to be fine with SB. I like to keep temps below 75c everyday use but for stress testing a little more is fine. You have good temps wink.gif

Wow I'm glad to hear that. I actually turned the OC off in my BIOS until I could get confirmation on acceptable temps. Ima turn it back on now biggrin.gif

The stupid ASUS monitor gives me a warning when i go over 70 degrees, so I'll have to figure a way to turn that off.

I'm finally stable at 4.5Ghz. My temps are ~35c idle and ~68 at full Prime95 load. I've been running full load now for about 3 hours and I'm going to try leaving this on overnight (though I hate to see my electricity bill...)

I think I've got it figured out.

TCASE

You can't measure that with software.

70C is fine. You can even get high 80's and be fine (although it's not desirable). thumb.gif

Well, you're doing better than me. At 4.8GHz in Prime95 I get upwards of 85C so my OC right now is 4.7GHz....
