Dumb P8P67 question

Thread Starter
What is this 3-pin for?

(dumb question but I don't wanna mess up)

I was thinking about buying a 2nd fan for my 212+ but I'm not sure what that 3-pin does, is that another CPU fan connector? or just a normal case fan connector... or what is it?

I don't have anything plugged into it.

I'm curious too. I just assumed it was for case fans but I'm not sure either.
Probably some type of sensor input... Someone should crack open the manual.

It is NOT a fan connector. Those are likely jumpers. Check your motherboard documentation for the definition of what shorting pins 1/2 or 2/3 do.

That's what it looks like to me too, a 3-pin CLRTC to erase the CMOS RTC RAM data.

However, I would check the manual to be sure.

Just my 2c worth...

Guess I'll need a 4 pin splitter or 3 pin splitter cable for a push/pull config, any specific cable you'd recommend me? Are there any cons for using a 3 pin splitter cable if I use one? I believe I will have a hard time finding either one that's why I'm asking.

Thanks a lot for the quick replies too.

Be mindful of how many Watts your fans need. And remember that fans on startup use a LOT more energy than running. The CPU fan header on most motherboards can only do 1A@12V or about 12W, for push/pull that means 6W per fan max.

For example: Gentle Typhoon AP15s are rated for only 1W (0.083A@12V) when running...but on startup need a little over 4W (0.36A@12V) each.

Now some motherboard manufacturers have extra powerful fan headers capable of 2A on CPU-fan, but I can't remember if Asus is one of those or not.
