Starting my new build with this combo.

That's the same price I paid for them about 2 months ago.

The funny thing is, if you look up each item separately, it's cheaper.

ASUS P8Z68-V Pro:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/6Gbps-Supported-Motherboards-P8Z68-V-PRO/dp/B00503EA80/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313810426&sr=1-1"]http://www.amazon.com/6Gbps-Supported-Motherboards-P8Z68-V-PRO/dp/B00503EA80/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313810426&sr=1-1[/ame]
$199.99

i7-2600K:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-2600K-Processor-3-4GHz-LGA1155/dp/B004EBUXSA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313810466&sr=1-1"]http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-2600K-Processor-3-4GHz-LGA1155/dp/B004EBUXSA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313810466&sr=1-1[/ame]
$314.95

Total purchased individually = $514.94

IDK if the "free" game is worth it...I've never played it.

Either way, for me it was well worth it. You can't go wrong with this combination in my opinion...

Just my 2c worth...hope it helps,

Rich

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, even though I bought them as separate items, one of them did come with a code to download Assassin's Creed...I never did though...is that wrong?

Fry's has the Z68 Pro on sale for $170 after MIR. Check it out if you live near a B&M store. Also, they just had the 2600k on sale for $180. If you want to save some money, it might be worth waiting 1-2 weeks for some deals to pop up (they always do).

Also, if you're just going to be gaming, many people would recommend (myself included) that you get a 2500k and put your savings elsewhere (better monitor, GPU, SSD, etc.). Just my 2c biggrin.gif

I'll look for that. Pardon my ignorance but whats a B&M Store?

A lot of people have said that about the 2500k. For $100 bucks I feel like i'd rather leave myself the room to go big in the future if i decide to. Or is it still really not worth it?

B&M = Brick and Mortar. An actual store you go to as opposed to an online retailer.

From what I've read, there's not really any games that take advantage of hyper-threading, so if gaming is your primary use, it's not necessary to get the 2600K. If you do a lot of video rendering or encoding it would help. I got one just 'cause I wanted one. I do a lot of photo editing though, and figured it couldn't hurt. rolleyes.gif

Your set up looks like it could be very very close to what I'm shooting for. Anything you would have done differently? better?

Put some 1600Mhz GSskill RipJawsX in there and a Noctua D14 and you'll be breaking some records in no time.

i just posted that to get some opinions

Actually, it does everything I needed/wanted it to do. I'm not really a gamer, so I had no idea what kind of GPU to get. I chose the one I did because it seemed to be well rated and said it could support 6 monitors. I wanted to try out Eyefinity myself. I have had 4 monitors hooked up at once, but only use 3 now. It allows for some serious multi-tasking.

The same can be said for my PSU. I knew Corsair was among the best and I wanted something with a little head room in case I added something later so I got the AX850.

I went with the Intel SSD since most folks agreed it was one of, if not the most reliable long-term. I was a little worried when the 8mb bug surfaced, but just today installed the firmware that's supposed to correct it. Props to Intel for addressing and correcting it so quickly.

I stuck with WD drives since I've always had good luck with them in the past.

Overall, I don't think I would change a thing. In fact, I am already planning "Niban", which will be for home use. My first one was for work. The only thing I've changed is to go for 16GB of RAM, again just because I want to...smile.gif

I'm also looking at different cases. I love the 650D, but it's pretty big. I guess I could make room at the house for one, but if I could find one with the same look and build quality in a smaller size, I'd definitely be interested.

I think you're going to be very happy with your build. I have no regrets myself.

Hope this helps,

Rich
