New AMD build, or wait for Bulldozer? - Page 2

why are you thinking about buying an amd hexa this close to bulldozer?

I would personally just buy a used BE dual core and wait these last 4 weeks. I'm sure someone has one to sale on the OCN market place.
You should also try getting 1866 memory instead of 1333, to take advantage of BD's superior IMC.

Obviously at some point games will start taking advantage of lots of cores, when the 1090T will come in handy, but, who knows when that will be? It will be obsolete by the time that happens lol!

And with BD just around the corner, two things could happen:

1. BD disappoints, and you'll be kicking yourself for not waiting and then going with SB.

2. BD is a good\\great chip, but new MBs will be out that truly support it, not the current 890\\990x "BD ready" ones...
990x is for bulldozer >..>

Keep your system till benchmarks for bd come out. Everyone is saying September but it might paper launch and not be available till october

Now would b. A good time to grab some good ram sticks as they can be found cheap! Don't waste your money on 1333 cl9 junk tho. Try and wait a bit for BD to come out if you can, otherwise go for it.

Well, I have decided to just go with a SB build. I was watching some Linus Tech tips videos. He did some comparisons between the 1100T and the 2500K, gaming and some encoding benches. I was able to see the big difference between them. So, 1155 is where I am heading. I'll update my first post to reflect.

what i know is...bulldozer isn't worth buying unless you got 1k$ laying around on your floor. Games won't be needing more then 4 cores until the 2012 mid so you're pretty much off with 6 cores for about 1 year or so...prolly more and in the meantime you can keep changing your GPU to latest ones...then when bulldozer gets old and cheaper, you can sell this rig and buy that one and then it'll last you for more years until some new comes out....

all in all, buying something which has just released is foolishness (no offence) as that stuff is overpriced only because it has no competitors.

Shadow. I do more than just gaming, I run VMs and do encoding. Hence multiple cores help me more than just a dedicated gamer & web browser.

If that's the case you should just wait. Bulldozer is literally right around the corner.

In about a month we should have real benchmarks to see what it can do. You may not be able to buy it in a month LoL, but at least we should have anandtech, tom's hardware, etc, reviews on it so you can see if you should get one.

It would be silly to go SB now if you actually have uses for the 8 cores BD has and find out the 8 Core Bulldozer destroys SB in multi-threaded apps and is competitive (or better) in single-threaded apps...

Then you'll be saying "why didn't I wait for BD???"....
