60hz TN to 120hz 2233RZ Samsung worth ? - Page 3

to answer your question about GPU power getting another 5770 looks like be best cost/performance thing you can do.

But a 6950 2Gb would also be recommended

get an LG W2363D is much better than samsung
post #23 of 32
Thats pretty expensive for an older 22" 120hz monitor. At that price I would go with the LG W2363D.

120hz LCDs have been improving rapidly.

No, you don't need to upgrade. Yeah, you won't be running BFBC2 or most other newer titles maxed out at 120fps but a lot of games will. The 5770 is still no slouch.

I haven't used that Samsung so I can't speak about it directly. I just saw how much an improvement newer 120hz 1080p displays like my Planar are over my old Acer gd235hz. You are talking about the first 120hz lcd on the market. I know that there have been improvements with these 120hz displays over the years.

Even if they were both equal in quality I would find it hard to spend as much for a 1680x1050 display as I could for a larger 1920x1080.

5770 is still a good card. Yeah, you won't be running Metro 2033 or Crysis at crazy framerates or high settings but there are quite a few others like CSS, LFD2, Killing Floor that you will. There isn't a game on the market that will be unplayable on that card at 1080p.

I don't know if I have a problem with my eyesight or not (because according to every post I've read, I should see an instant difference between the two), but I don't see the difference between 60hz and 120hz unless I try real hard.
Might be because of the games I play, or might be because my GD235HZ sucks. My point is, go the any store and try it out before you but it.

Right now i'm waiting for a deal to make the switch to a bigger IPS monitor.

I wouldn't base my opinion of 120hz displays off of the GD235hz. Its a really, really poor display even compared to a middle of the road 60hz monitor. I had one. I had ordered a Planar SA2311w to replace it within the month and the difference was night and day. The GD235hz and from what I hear hq just have too many problems to look past.

When I got the GD235hz in the very first game that I played I noticed the input lag. It also ghosts a bit, I'm not talking about 3d crosstalk I mean normal ghosting. I also saw an odd shade around high contrast areas. It almost looked like a halo around text on a webpage. I've seen other people mention every one of this problems about that display too. The crosstalk in 3d vision is also just horrific on that display. Thats actually the main reason that I switched to the Planar.

Well, I can't say I don't notice how crappy the GD235hz is. It looks incredibly pale next to my 60hz 2001FP, although I don't notice any input lag / ghosting in mine. But still, i'm talking solely about the 120hz feature.
If you're saying there's a difference between the Planar & the GD235hz in terms of 120hz smoothness, then that explains why i'm not seeing much of a difference.

Its not like it was that bad in those areas. I wasn't even sure that it was input lag. Something just felt a bit off. I had an HP LP2465 and that was far worse with input lag and ghosting. A lot of people didn't even notice it on that display.
