Unlocking X3 455 with M4A88t-M usb3 - Page 2

you can find a70 for about the same price as a hyper 212+ and its better.
212+ and 612 come with 1 fan and mounting hardware for 2

a70 comes with 2 fans
The A70 only mounts to blow upward I think... I usually don't recommend it for AMD systems
But there is the Sunbeam Twister, also a dual fan cooler at the same price as the 212+

Pack of MOSFET heatsinks can be had for between $7.50-$11, plenty of different sites to buy from. Note that with pretty much ANY and EVERY aftermarket tower cooling, the air will be blowing over the MOSFETs and they will not be properly cooled.

Thanks for all the help I've started looking around mosfet heatsinks and other option besides the 212+.

Only one more question...I have a CM 690 II, would it help if I put more fans in the case, in terms of motherboard cooling? And should I turn off AMD cool 'n' quiet? thanks!

New fans could help favour motherboard cooling, however possibly at the expense of CPU cooling. Less can be more when it comes to CPU cooling. Not only would a simple front-rear airflow setup (with no top fans or side fans) cool very well to begin with, but result in less turbulence and noise, and less possible disruption of airflow.

The case comes stock with a front 120mm and a rear one, so maybe I shoouldn't put more...is there any guide to mount mosfet heatsinks? I'm a noob when it comes to motherboard cooling...

its best to turn off cool&quiet and c1e when overclocking, it lowers voltage and cpu multiplier when idle

after you find stable settings its safe to turn them back on

for mostket kits

get these

and mount them like this

Def. get the mosfet heatsinks. Also, you can get a good top down cooler that will blow air on them and still cool the cpu quite well.
Ex: SilenX EFZ-120HA3 120mm Is slightly tilted so that air blows on vrms.

COOLER MASTER Vortex Plus

Scythe SCSMZ-2000 92mm

Scythe SCRT-1000 120mm

Noctua NH-C14 140mm x 2

Just a few in order of increasing price.
It's so little!

Hey fcalves i have a favor to ask.

Can you check what is the default vcore of your Athlon x3 455?
Also if the vcore changes when unlocked to Phenom B55.

I have the same cpu but vcore bios reading doesnt change when unlocked, while it changes with HWmonitor reading.
