Related to my PSU?

Thread Starter
So I just recently put my new video card into my computer along with a second CD drive and whenever I start my computer it takes two "cranks" for it to start, like it will make the start noise, then a weird sound, and then it'll do it again and start (clicked the power button once). Also, sometimes when I play graphic intensive games, my computer will freeze and I'll have to hard restart my computer. Is this because my power supply isn't putting out enough?

Extra Information: Whenever I put my computer to hibernate/sleep and I start it up again, my mouse and computer are running, but my keyboard doesn't work and my screen is black.

Your 750W PSU is more than capable of handling your sig rig, so it's definitely not your PSU not being able to cope. You should first try to disconnect and reconnect all the connectors and plugs in your rig to rule out bad connection.

faulty psu, cpu, video card, and motherboard will freeze up the game.

usually its a faulty psu, cpu, or video card. you got anything extra you can try or borrow to try out?

its part of the elimination process.

I've had a problem like that for a while, I think there is something up with my board b/c my onboard NICs aren't working either. But this is my only computer so I can't really RMA. I'd say if you have a 2nd mobo try it out. I never had the problem with it freezing during games though.

My computer will also never wake from sleep correctly anymore. It will just continue to do that first crank kinda thing. Mine used to be kinda like yours though, but instead the screen would come on and the keyboard (PS/2) would work, but all my USB stuff stopped working.

Is a fresh install of windows out of the question? You may be having hard drive issues,or driver issues.Your board is a bit old.

I know it's not the cpu.

Hi dude, you definately have enough power with your 750w PSU. Its not a terrible unit either so it should be fine.

When you first start up your computer, windows isnt loaded yet so your motherboard is doing all the work, so it shouldnt be a windows thing.

Your ram could be an issue too. If ram isnt installed correctly it doesnt allow your computer too start. I have once been fiddling with my PC and then accidently knocked a ram slightly and didnt realise, I couldnt get my pc too start for about half an hour lol.

Do you overclock your PC? Because if you do, with the older intel CPUs, you also increase the BCLK clock which effects the memory clock too. So maybe if your overclocking you need too turn your BCLK clock down, as memory is very sensitive too overclocking and memory can cause a system not too start.

Steps I would take would
1.start at resetting your motherboard bios settings
2.reset the CMOS (If you want I can send you a link with a guide)
3. reseat the ram.
4. ensure everything is plugged in properly.
5. cleanly install the latest nvidia drivers for your video card

See if it works better now. If it runs fine with everything at default, then it may have been your overclock too blame, this has happened too me before. This means you need too have a smaller overclock, but at least its working.

If this doesnt work, then I would try flashing your motherboard with a new bios. If it still doesnt work, then you should take out your new video card and see if your system runs without it. If it does, then take the new card out and put it in another computer with a PCIe slot and see if it works in that. If it doesnt work in the other computer you should return your card...

There are a lot of things we could recommend you try, so if I haven't helped you, you should post more information up on here. For example which methods you have already tried too fix it, so we can recommend new ones.

I hope this is of some help.

Okay so I reseated everything, cleaned out my whole case with that air blow stuff and I'm ready to try to reset my BIOS? I think I'm gonna need a tutorial for that because I heard if you mess that up you pretty much mess everything up :/
