i7 2600k + Coretemp?

Hey!

I just got my i7 2600k and it is beastly! Idles at 4.5GHz at 30°c and at load the mid 60's. I measure this temp in coretemp because it allows me to use the mini LCD on my keyboard to see temps in game and also the overheat protection.

The only problem is, is that coretemp sometimes spikes at 98°c for a couple of seconds, even though it is in the mid 60's. I know it is in the mid 60's because AI Suite II reports it in the mid 60's.

Is this a know bug or is it just my system? Is there anything I can do about it? I can't use the overheat protection because when it reads 98°c it automatically shuts windows down

try giving real temp a shot and see if you get the same issue. I wouldnt really trust AI Suite II, it reports my cpu to being 10C under what its really at.

Tried real temp but I don't particularly like it. The icon on the taskbar is invisible and it has no overheat protection.

are you getting the same issue with temp spikes though? or is it only coretemp doing it?

I think it is only coretemp. It happens when I am playing games and also stress testing. On my previous screenshot, coretemp shows it at 98° on the max column but not on any of the others.

try using a previous version of coretemp and see how that goes. Im running v 0.99.8 with no issues.

+1

It also doesn't show individual cores.

At the minimum I would compare the temps from Realtemp to Coretemp before going Coretemp exclusively. I've never used Coretemp, but I am confident in Realtemp's readings. If they are both giving the same readings then it doesn't matter.

I Can't find version 0.99.8 anywhere All the downloads are 1.0. Can someone give me a download link to 0.99.8?

Here ya go...

Hope it works...FWIW I run 0.99.8 on my laptop and desktop too and don't seem to have any issues.
