Going to rack my brain on this, and I'll try to give a detailed understanding as much as I can. Keep in mind this is probably going to be opinionated.

1.Super Mario Bros. 3 -- Excellent 2p classic, both on the NES/SNES, 8 worlds of nonstop grueling fun. Featured in The Wizard (one of my favorite movies) and pretty difficult if you've not sat down and played it for hours. Oh, Warp Whistle, how you help me sneak past those cruel difficult levels I hate so much.

2.Donkey Kong Country 2 -- Again, 2p classic. Same concept as SMB3, only Donkey Kong style. The primary reason for this is the mine cart racing levels hold a dear, dear spot in my heart. Always loved that portion of the game. Add in some zany animal friends, wacky levels, extremely difficult end-game levels and you're in for a treat.

3.The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time -- Okay, Most people must be asking 'Why not a Link to the Past?' ALTTP was a fantastic game by all measures, but OoT was just....special. Something about the game (Ocarina? the crazy Windmill guy? Jabu Jabu? The soundtrack? Or it being the first game I ever bought a strategy guide for..) just makes it epic by all measures.

4.Final Fantasy VII -- This game....I have played so many times I couldn't tell you why it's so special to me. First Final Fantasy game I ever truly played, and it made me cry. Enough said. I've gone through this game and done EVERYTHING (Okay, theres TWO things I haven't done...) and still play it to this day.

5.Legend of Dragoon -- Big RPG fan, one of the best RPGs ever created. The storyline, intuitive combat system, atmosphere, or the Silver Dragon (I believe that's the name.) Nothing like finally hitting that Gust of Wind Dance for the first time.

6.Diablo Series (1+2) -- I've poured more hours into these games than I'm willing to accept.

7.Portal -- One of my absolute favorites. Great concept, loved GLaDOS, her personality was unbelievable, and Jonathan Coltoun(?) has an art for end-game musicals. (See:Eat Your Brains, Still Alive, Want You Gone for best examples. Spoilers in the songs if you haven't played the games.)

8.Resident Evil Series (Too difficult to just pick one) -- Let's face it. If you've ever played it, the hallway scene in the first one (You know what I'm talking about) scared the crap out of you. 2 was renouned as one of the best, 4 took it to another level....There's too many to recount.

9.Chrono Trigger -- Fantastic game, binding storyline, one of the best around. On tier with Earthbound, Final Fantasy 6, etc. -- Possibly way before its time....

10.Pac-Man -- We've all burned countless quarters on this little yellow freak. To this day, I still spend nearly an hour playing this game if I ever find it in an arcade. Special note:Originally, it was to be named Puck-man, but the creator (Who incidentally came up with the idea after there was a missing slice from his pizza) figured it would be too easy to mess with the name. (Think about it.)

That's all I've really got off the top of my head. I know I forgot great games that deserve honorable mentions (Final Fantasy X, Super Mario RPG, Castlevania, Tetris, etc) but...meh. Brain can only put together so much.

Apologies for the long winded post. Gotta love it when you just trail off and pour all your thoughts.
