You need a more expensive mobo to overclock the 540.
Also, i3-2100 beats the 540 by 30%. Overclocking the 540 just to get to the same performance of the 2100 is silly, especially since they cost the same.

It's 12-15%. The 540 at 4.4ghz will kick the crap out of the i3-2100 at 3.1 ghz.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148767

$614.94 after 40 rebate and 10 instant promo code.

Add a case of your choice... the InWin one isn't that good...vulcan one is better for the same price.

CF in x4 mode is 'fine' people will beat this to death, but you won't see that huge of a difference in SLI/CF from x8 vs. x4 maybe 5-10 fps..and its mostly withing the error range anyways. That power supply I quoted will be fine for CF 6870s also.

This handles BF2 at max settings... it will handle BF3 at least in high settings as you got a very powerful CPU. Add a cooler down the road and OC the cpu ... as for Diablo 3 I am sure if this system can handle BF3 to decent settings it will handle Diablo 3. Worse come to worse in 3-4 mths when Diablo 3 comes out just add another 6870 and it will handle both games fairly well.

Expensive??? You can acquire a H55 board for under $65. Maybe less if you buy used.

Unsupported socket, sure. But if you're suggesting that it isn't a wise upgrade or purchase then you better rethink your priorities.

If i was building a 700 dollar rig i couldn't possibly consider something thats not supported anymore. Yes the clarkdale's overclock like mad but i'd still stay the course and get the 2120 just so i can upgrade to Ivy bridge
