Trouble with NB overlock

Thread Starter
I've been visiting the forums trying to read and learn about how to overclock my phenom 955 and have hit a wall, so I decided I should finally make my own post here.

I've got my system running stable at 3.6ghz and 2200mhz with 1.33v for the cpu and 1.1v (stock) for the cpu-nb. When I try to bump up the cpu-nb speed to 2400mhz I get bsods like crazy. I've gotten my cpu-nb voltage up to 1.3v and my cpu voltage up to 1.4v. I actually had my system running prime95 overnight and it worked all night but the second I stopped the program my system bsod'd again. I've gotten error codes 0x3b, 0x1e and 0x50. Also if it makes any difference right before the bsod shows up my screen gets all crazy looking with artifacts everywhere. I've also noticed that my Graphics card overclock got automatically reset to stock settings somehow.

My RAM is running at 1.65v with 1600mhz and 8-8-8-24 timings. I thought that might be the problem so I dropped it to 1333mhz and left everything else alone but this didn't fix anything.

I haven't changed the FSB settings at all, I'm just using multipliers to overclock.

Not sure if you have these or not to help with reading the BSOD codes but they should help in case you don't have them.

Are you sure your adjusting the cpu/nb volts and not the NB volts? I only ask because 1.1v is the stock settings for the NB not the cpu/nb.

^ Those error codes relate to CPU instability. You may need more CPU voltage, however I do not recommend further overvolting of the the 955 with aftermarket cooling on unheatsinked 3+1 power phase.

I'm sure I'm changing the right settings since I've been checking the cpu-nb and nb voltages in my BIOS health monitor between boots.

I was using the error codes here:

http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ror-codes.html

to help me figure out what to do and fix the problem. Like you said the main thing that is suggested is more cpu voltage. I really don't want to go higher than I have though. I'm back down to 3.6ghz and 2200mhz cpu-nb. What I don't understand is why I can't push any higher even with the voltage increases (1.3-> 1.4 cpu and 1.1-> 1.3 cpu-nb). Could it be my motherboard or ram that's causing the problem?
