Trying hard to pick a card : Need help pls!

Ok

Just upgraded my aging system.

I now have.

Phenom X6 2.6 1050T CPU
ASUS M4A88T -M M/Board
8 GIG of Kingston 1666 Ram
ANTEC 620 cooler

Existing equipment.
Sure it is an enermax 750W PSU (cost me £100 a few years ago)
A few 300 gig Seagate Barracuda HDDs
NXT case, a few years old but I like it smile.gif

Now, hope fully someone will be able to spec a me graphics card, that first of all will play BF3 at roughly 1400 x 1020, would like to play as close to full settings as possible!

Secondly, hopefully be as quiet as possible since I cannot hear my PC at all now with the water cooler running!

Budget, between £150 and £200.

Thanks

In all honesty I would probably suggest a reference HD 6950 2GB, unlock the shaders on it and overclock the bugger! Astounding value for money.

That's way overkill for his resolution. You would run fine on a factory-overclocked GTX460 1GB. If you want to future proof a bit you could get a GTX560Ti 1GB for about $60 less than the 6950 2GB.

I'm going by my own rule, so I apologise for that if it's not what the OP is interested in.

FYI, my 'rule' is aiming for at least 50/60fps minimum.

Right. I have the same standards. However, he's not playing at 1920x1080 as most of us are, he's playing at 1400x1020 which is much less demanding on a videocard.

To be perfectly honest guys, I would like it to look great and not stutter !

If you had to pick, would you choose a 6950 or a 560ti?

I have been trying to search for the quietest version of each one, can anyone recommend one please?

Thanks again!

If you are going to be playing at higher then 1080p or using multiple monitors for eyefinity pick the 6950 2gb.

1080p or less pick the 560ti plus you get physx and cuda.

a 560ti with a 950mhz core OC can perform a little better then a 6950 2gb at stock at lower resolutions. The difference between the two cards is hardly noticeable depending on the game you play. I've owned them both over the past couple of weeks and they're very similar in performance, you can't go wrong with either.

If you pick the 560ti consider the MSI version with the twin frozr cooler.

If you go for the 6950 2gb there is also a twin frozr version. Sapphire and ASUS also makes nice 6950's
