$450 will get me?

Thread Starter
Im looking for a school only laptop. W7, decent hard drive, graphics arent all that important. Blu ray play back would be nice, but not if its going to effect price.

Details I care about.

Processor
Hard Drive
Ram
Graphics

I would like the processor to be as new as possible. To get a good jump on the tech curve as possible.

Hard drive space should be no less the 500 gb. If you can find a 1tb, that would make me happier.

Ram at at least 4gb. No less, but more is fine.

Graphics for movie playback and video. No gaming. Its for school. And an adult female.

Also screen size is not important, but I would like to get it as high as possible.

Here's one laptop that has all you said you need and is a bit under budget: CLICK
*The B940 is a Core i3 Sandy Bridge with 1MB L3 cache less, so no big loss
*4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD
*the igp may be a bit slow. As an alternative with good GPU and worse CPU here's an alternative.

This one has a similar processor but a better graphics card (it should allow you to play games although not at max in most cases). The one above is good too and if you don't wan't to play at all on it, it will be more than enough and it has a larger screen.

If you must have a 500gb hard drive I suggest buying one and installing it. Most laptops get OEM seagates that from my experience just end up dying. I have replaced all my laptop drives with samsungs or wd and am more than happy.

For an actual laptop i would look into Amd APU chips that were just released.

Well, I can come down on the hard drive space. Let say 250. Then what would some of your choices be?

I have alway had good luck with Toshiba's, they have quality and performance at a good price. They have always been reliable, and its a trusted name. Shop around for some Toshiba's. Not to mention to are nice looking too.

two pretty good options in my book.
The first one is only avaiable AT fry's i think, so idk if you can even get one there idk if there are any around you. It has an i5 which is pretty much not seen in that pricerange. It might be a one day deal. Not sure about gateway, might need to do some research.

The second one is a pretty sweet deal on an AMD A6 APU which is a Quad Core and Graphics card on the same chip.

Either is good.
I was looking for a laptop in that price range, but I decided I wanted better build quality and more power, so I ended up going for a 14" Lenovo Ideapad Y470 with a Core i5 2.3GHz, 4GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GT550M Graphics card with 1 GB of dedicated VRAM.
Got it on a big sale for $676, this was two days ago.

Just my 2cents.

Right at your budget. I don't know if they will make you pay for shipping for them to ship it to your local Best Buy. You can crossfire the APU graphics and the dedicated graphics to get the HD 6720G2.
