Overclocking 6950

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
Hey guys I'm having some throw ups with my 6950 card. I've been trying to overclock it passed AMD's CCC limits (835/1375 lol) and I've tried both Afterburner and Trixx. Trixx is the only one that seems to be able to pass it limits but I hate how the fan controller for trixx always gets reset.

Is there anyway to make it so everytime my computer boots the fan speed stays at 75%? If not, how can I make afterburner pass CCC limits because its also stuck at 837/1375.

THanks in advance guys! I know this card can oc decently, I ran it at 1000/1450 at 1.2v before and it was chillin under 69 on games

Edit the afterburner config file and change this:

UnofficialOverclockingEULA
UnofficialOverclockingMode

to this:

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1

That will unlock the limits to a higher setting than in CCC. You can set the fan curve to your desired settings and then hit "Apply overclocking at system start up", and I believe that will make the clocks and fan speed at the levels you want them when you computer boots up. It might be a better idea though to make the curve an actual curve rather than a fixed setting just to reduce the noise given off by the fan.

I also think you need afterburner 2.2 beta. The information downloaded beta 5 and it worked perfectly.

On my 6950 I used afterburner version 2.1 to overclock it to 880/1375, and it worked fine, so I don't think that you need the beta. I could be wrong though.

Maybe I'm confused and you don't need the beta, but from experience i've had trouble Overclocking the 6950s on the 2.1 version. The going to beta worked for me
