Can't get over 4ghz - Page 2

this might help . . .

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...ered-here.html

for TIM, i recommend MX-2.

The two (cooler and TIM) go together. your antec case is more than suffucient assuming you have all fans installed. keep an eye on other temps like the nb.

Thanks for all the info, will be buying a new cooler tonight

On a side note, I was able to hit 4.2ghz with 1.54 like CloudCR, except i disabled 2 cores to bring the temps down.

The only thing that worries me right now, is that at idle, it overvolts to 1.6

The temps are 33 idle and 47 load. Should I not even attempt it with that much voltage?

I would not go past 1.5V - if your board supports Load Line Calibration, try lowering the setting.

Sadly it does not, the vdroop is pretty bad, and it overvolts to compensate. They really need to get a new bios out.

To be honest, your not gaining much from 4GHZ to 4.2GHZ - and the fact that your hitting 1.6 vCore is only going to degrade your CPU faster. Getting better cooling isn't going to eliminate this fact - The CPU needs what it needs. Better cooling only allows you to deal with the heat that higher voltage produces.
