Worse quality PS/2-> USB converters generally won't work with certain boards or often have weird bugs.

which is why I tested it at the store before I bought it... which I wrote in the original post about purchasing it.

trying before buying eliminates any weird bugs or mysterious failures.

Moving from ALPS to Cherry browns may be somewhat a difficult feat if you truly love the way ALPS feel. In my opinion MX browns are unsatisfying and most everyone I know that has tried my keyboards agree. They are dull unless you are looking for something extremely light with a very subtle tactile feel.

thanks for the tip. I will look around and try to test some out, perhaps Cherry blues will be the best bet in the end... despite the noise. Eventually I want to move to a keyboard with a more moden look and smaller footprint, probably a tenkeyless Leopold or something similar.

This is why Razer said they chose Cherry Blues after extensive testing.
Quote:
"The biggest downside to the Blues was the sound – but the other features were huge winners – and the data we collated from hundreds of pro/amateur gamers indicated that the tactile and clicky Blues provided a significant advantage to the gamers as opposed to those that used other switches".

I'm confused. Wth is this for? Why not use a modern keyboard?

It's like me saying I wanna get into computing, so I bought myself a pentium 233mhz with 32mb ram! Lol

spend 14 years working with your hands to the point where you get wrist and elbow injuries, and then try to type on a modern rubber dome keyboard.

the mechanical keys improve typing speed, decrease errors, and reduce fatigue.

ever heard that phrase "they just don't make em like they used to"? this is one of those instances where it applies.
