Slow SSD

Thread Starter
So I got an SSD (not for my rig lol) and it feels slow. It even feels slower than my hard drive. It is a Corsair Nova 2 and it even got a 5.9 on Windows Experience Index. I don't get it. Am I doing something wrong?

Is ahci mode enabled in your bios? Also is the firmware up to date? And are all the drivers up to date as well?

It's not filled up or anything right?

You could try a secure erase on it, make sure to backup.

Look to see it is says IDE anywhere and change that to ahci. It most likely be on the first page. If not try the firmware update, update drivers, and if all that doesn't work i would do secure erase and reinstall...there may be something else to try as well. If you do find it as IDE you can change it via registry change. also there are a few links i'll get you for tips and tricks for ssds.

It should definately have an option like "SATA mode", where you need to switch to AHCI. But you will probably have a BSOD. In that case, switch back to IDE and then follow this guide:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/61869-ahci-enable-windows-7-vista.html

After that, install Intel® Rapid Storage Technology.

well, this motherboard's bios is stripped down. it's a gigabyte m68m-s2 and an amd phenom x2 550. It doesn't overclock, and it only has 2 sata ports.

I tried that thing from the Windows 7 forums and it fails to boot. The motherboard apparently doesn't support it. frown.gif
