Best gpu for $200 - Page 3

Well i ordered my GTX 560Ti FPB from Evga's B-Stock and i have had this card for 11days now and i have been folding since i have gotten this card and havent had a problem with it the stock clocks are 850 and i have it overclocked to 950 and my temps are only 66 degrees Cel and im doing all this to see if it will fail cause it comes with a 90day warrenty but honestly i dont see this thing failing to soon

anyways i got this off of B-Stock from evga and it was $179.99 and by the time shipping and everything was added the final price came to $188.00, i registred it and got 3DMark11 for free
i will be ordering another one of these when i get a new Mobo so i can SLI's these pigs,i have switched from AMD/ATI to nVidia and im glad i did so, but it well worth it, but thats just my opinion

Thanks Roger

What LokSupguller said. The 6870s pretty zippy, a little noisy, but it puts out such a small heat footprint compared to the rest. $150 after rebate on a lot of them too.

OP said that he doesn't really need all that much power.

I would go for either the GTX460 or HD6850 in your case. Anything else might be overpaying for slightly better performance that you don't need. You can probably get them for around $150 or less depending on deals and rebates. You'll want to use these cards since they offer very low power consumption and heat output, especially since you probably don't have great airflow with your gateway case.

wow! I wasn't expecting so many replies. thanx everybody. just so you all know my sig rig is not the one I need the card for. the pc I've built has a corsair gs600 but I'm planning on ordering something different with 500 or so watts. any suggestions for something reasonable that would maybe go with a 6850 card or a gtx 460/470? I would rather go with a new card though over a used or re-certifited. if I were to buy a 6850, what model would be best? same with the gtx's.

To change your sig rig go to quicklinks then edit signature then go to the section on your rig.
Basicly ou now need to decide how much performance you want. You could save money by going with a 6850 or 460, or get more with a 6870 or 560 or 470. Based on the games you mentioned I don't think you need more than a 6850/460 but you mjst decide this for yourself.
I personally care about power efficency, in this regard the AMD cards have an advatage, and the nvidia 5XX cards are better than the 4XX cards. If power/heat aren't big conerns then disregard this.
The next thing to think about is overclocking if you're not interested please say so now, because everyone here will asume you'll OC whatever you buy. notes the 460/560 have the same core so you could theoretically get the same performance, however the GPU core aren't identical, nvidia made optimisations to facilitate higher clocks, so the stock is faster and the majority of OCs will be faster, and the 560 will use less power for the same clocks.

I was going to make a thread until I read about the 460's/470's in here.
I'm going to need a new GPU for BF3/DX11 gaming and was wondering if a 460 would be enough for DX11 1680x1050 resolution. I know BF3 specs aren't out yet but based on the DX11 titles out right now what do you guys think?
I, like the OP don't want to spend much over $200 especially since the new line of cards are coming out later this year.

They are out and the 460s on the recommended list. If you're going for BF3, get a 560 Ti minimum.

Based on the intended application, which I see as "light gaming." I would not bother with all of these maxed out suggestions. Save some bucks, and pick up a GTX460 1GB for around $160. That would be the absolute highest performance card you really need. A GTX550TI for around $135 is also perfectly capable of doing what you need to do.
