Looks like you got a laing which is what was advertised... shrugs. Dunno about that flow rate though.

MCP350 and MCP355 are mostly identical, to make sure yours is MCP355 just open it up and check the wire connection.

Right im no electrician (mechanical engineer) but the black and the blue are the other way around on mine. No 4th solder lump but the solder for the black wire is bigger? Is that that bridge?

From what i remember that layout is for MCP 355, but just to make sure you can power up this bad boy while the RPM reader connection is plugged-in and see that its the ~4400RPM model (and not the ~3900RPM one aka MCP 350).

Is the version with the black impeller a bad version of the MCP355 though?

connect a long enough hose to reach the bottom of the sink with the pump sitting on the counter. connect an outlet hose that goes into the sink. fill the sink with water. power on the pump. watch the water flow. just make sure you give it a good flush with distilled when your finished

Look here. MCP branding is Swiftech. Laing doesn't make a MCP only swiftech. The pumps have gone thru revisions thru the years, and each brand has their own revisions. MCP355 are not Laings in the way that Dodge Stealth is not a Mitsubishi 3000GT. Anyways, I try to avoid black impeller pumps like the plague.

The pump should run longer and stay cooler than the 355 type. If the pump is able to maintain 1.0-1.5gpm flow in your loop, then there should be no complaints with it. Too much flow can limit the amount of thermal transfer of heat from the loop. In other words, too much flow will not be able to pick up the heat since the flow doesn't stay long enough to grab it, not release it in the RAD. You could give the pump a try and record the performance findings.
I promoted the idea of too fast of water movement would limit heat transfer in a post last year and had my ear chewed off. Some simply do no subscribe to the idea of water moving too fast inhibits heat transfer. This idea has been common with automotive cooling systems for decades, you leave the thermostat out and the coolant flows too fast.

EDIT: I have a blue impeller DDC that is labled 18W
