So here is what i have: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258459

I bought this on sale on black fridays few years ago and havent used it much since. I just recently model my living and hook this system up and notice the sound quality isnt that great so i am looking for an upgrade such as buying new speaker? I have about $200-$300 to spend but unsure how to get the best bang for the buck. I only need 2.1 btw

edit: wrong link, fixed

5.1 to 2.1 is no upgrade. i would instead buy a standalone equalizer to get better sound.

well i read around a bit and i think i can buy a pair of really good speaker to swap out my current 5.1 and that pair of speaker can produce 5.1 since my receiver has 5 channel? and what do you mean equalizer?

I am a total noob at this so feel free to correct me.

2.0 or 2.1 can be a serious upgrade if you get a decent pair of speakers. You will loose some surround imaging from a properly set up 5.1 setup, but gain a lot more in stereo imaging, instrument separation, etc.

I have a cmplete 5.2 setup, but have only used 2.0 for the last couple years because it fit the room better.

You have an inexpensive receiver, but Onkyo's entry level stuff is pretty good. Upgrading your main speakers first is a great idea. With your budget you will likely wat to set aside $50 for stands and look at used bookshelf speakers. Start with a 2.0 setup for now. You can try your sub with better speakers, but after upgrading it will probably sound worse than no sub at all so I would consider selling your current speakers to increase your budget.

I havent looked at speakers in a couple years and the the speakers i would normally recommend are not made anymore. I did see that newegg has some martin logan towers on sale this weekend. I havent heard those ones but some of their higher end speakers are good, so they are probably a safe buy. I do recommend auditioning speakers before you buy if possible.

I would go with these

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAIR-Monitor...ht_4994wt_1163

3 year warranty directly from Polk.

The speakers in the frys ad are ES80s, not ES90s, but it's still a good deal.
