any suggestions? It's for home use, no games, just movies, youtube, writing, etc.

There will be no gpu so we will be using the onboard gpu,....should i cheap out for one of these
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?sku=484899

or get a matx z68? suggestions?

budget for mobo less than 100 (after discount, so subtract 40 from listed price)

I would reccomend an H67 board. I enjoy the MSI boards, but opinions vary.

^^The core i3-2100 isn't overclockable, well not much at least. It isn't unlocked. So buying a board that is designed for overclocking, is kind of a waste. I prefer H67 since it has the Sata 6Gb/s capability and works with intel Rapid Storage technology.

Don't get the Z68/P67 because the 2100 isn't over clockable via multiplier. An H61 should do and they're as cheap as $50

narrowed down to

MSI H67MA-E35-B3 LGA 1155 H67 mATX Intel Motherboard @ 90-10 MIR -40 combo

Biostar TP67B+ LGA 1155 P67 ATX Intel Motherboard @ 99 -40

ASUS
P7H55-M PRO Socket 1156 H55 mATX Motherboard @ 99-20 MIR - 40 Mobo combo

GA-H61M-USB3-B3 LGA 1155 H61 mATX Intel Motherboard @ 89 - 40

ASUS P8H61-M R3 LGA 1155 H61 mATX Intel Motherboard @ 84-40

ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM R3 LGA 1155 H61 mATX Intel Motherboard @ 75-40

this is just for daily use...nothing strenuous/comp intensive

how are biostar and ECS? i notice their h61 boards are much cheaper....

They good on the low-end side of things. Were you don't want Biostar and ECS is when you are looking for serious over clocks and a bunch of features, but for entry-level they're good. Def. get the cheapest thing.
