Phenom II x4 is a complete sidegrade.

Are any of the programs you use optimized for hex cores?

I would find that out first before investing anything, for gaming the i5-2500k is currently top price/performance, but you need a decent amount of gpu power for it to actually matter.

A 9800GTX+ wouldn't matter, so unless you have 570 type performance coming soon, or SLI'ed 460s or greater there is really no point in upgrading at this point.

You really can't get any kind of upgrade going on the Intel side, and on the AMD side for $230 its not worth your time either. You should consider waiting for bulldozer chips to come out as was said, and when they do decide based on performance where to go if you have the money for it. Also consider selling your 775 gear to make a better upgrade.
