Acer Iconia A500 tablet, go for it? - Page 3

Ok, so i was recently looking at tablets and because of weight and the screen, I would get the ASUS Transformer. ASUS Transformer has the accessory keyboard with battery (extends battery up to 16hrs and has two usb ports and SD slot). It also sports an IPS screen (ips = what all apple products have).

I think the OP is overlooking the W500. The W500 has a keyboard and dock, and runs windows 7, which is far superior to any other OS out there. It also uses the AMD c-50 apu and has a standard size hdmi output. My only gripe is that the gorilla glass on the w500 gives it a weightier feel. While it makes it feel expensive, it is heavy and makes it difficult to hold up for long periods of time. Screen however is gorgeous. Another gripe, all the bloatware that came with windows home premium...and the atheros networking card was weak. I upgraded it to an Intel one and installed a fresh windows 7 64-bit.

If you plan to do school work then you'll need the dock any way. And while the c-50 works well with hd videos, etc. it's processing power leaves much to be desired. The equivalent 6250 gpu in the w500 makes it worth going the w500 alone in my opinion. I use this thing as an htpc as well and it performs great.

The Acer Iconia is very good, I used for a few days and I like the way it's made. Plus there is tons of free apps. I did an optical illusion with it, check it out!biggrin.gif
