X2 550 unlocked to X3 passes 20 hours of blend in fresh windows, but not later

Hello.

I have Asus M5A99X Evo motherboard and Phenom II X2 550. Ive unlocked it to X3, because when I unlock it to X4, pc instantly lockups at the beggining of prime95 blend test. No matter what voltage I add, or anything else. I already tried everything - ram speed, voltages, CPU-NB speed and voltages, LLC, phase controls, VRM frequency, etc. Nothing works.

So I have it as X3. I discovered, that It can be X3 with enabled 3th core and disabled 4th core, and it can be X3 with disabled 3th core and enabled 4th core too, isnt that weird ? Both unlocked cores are good when the second one is disabled. So I have it as X3 now, overclocked to 3.8GHZ, at 1.475. When I do fresh install of windows and run prime95 blend test just after the installation finishes, it passes 20 hours no problem. But, after I install all drivers and adjust the windows to my needs, It doesnt pass even 1 hour. It either lockup (mouse freeze and system is unresponsive, only help is reset button), or it gives BSOD 124, which is hardware error. I tried again messing with ram speed, voltages, CPU-NB speed and voltages, LLC, phase controls, VRM frequency, etc. Nothing works. When I lower frequency to 3.6GHZ, it holds in prime longer without freeze or BSOD, so Id say the lockup at 3.8GHZ is related to frequency, but why it can pass 20 hours of blend at 3.8GHZ in fresh windows installation, and not later ? Today it even locked up while idle. I pushed my push-to-talk button on mumble to say hi to my friends, and bam lockup. I have 2 soundcards, one is integrated and one Xonar DX/XD. I already unplugged Xonar and disabled the integrated one, and I even disabled USB3 controller in bios too and now running Prime blend test. I want to know why it can pass 20 hours after fresh installation and not later.

Turn it back to stock clock and try prime95 again.
3.1 ghz triplecore is still better than 3.6 ghz dual

Hello,

I do not own this particular 990x chipset board, but I do own a similar board with the 990 chipset. My cpu is good on all four cores in any 790 board. In my 990x board, however, I find the core unlocker causes my system to be unstable no matter what settings I have.

Although my cpu passes prime on just 3 cores, if I try to do anything else, such as game, I get a hard freeze. Your best bet is to not unlock with that board, and instead just OC the proc.

from the sounds of it, it just can't handle prime + drivers, the only way to know the problem and fix the problem, is to replicate the problem, replicated the problem, ok it crashes, now step back , how did this problem arise ? you installed drivers.. now take those drivers out, if it runs 20 hours, then, install each driver. one. by. one. when it can't pass when you install a certain driver, then bam you know what your problem is , just my advice, have fun learning
