Anyone have proof/details of reasons not to buy a demo unit. I have a chance, though slim, of getting one.

Took this from SD's thread:

Quote:
DO NOT BUY A DEMO MODEL

Confirmed, according to HP Support Forum [hp.com], Precentral 1 [precentral.net], Precentral 2 [precentral.net] the demo TouchPad can be reset so that it won't install the demo software, but it still will be unable to create an account. Thanks to BluMaterial, original post below.

Quote from BluMaterial :
I can't edit the wiki (don't know why), but someone needs to add this: DO NOT buy a demo model! The demo models cannot be used to create a WebOS account, and if you can't create an account the touchpad is just a brick. This has been verified by HP tech support. There is currently no plan to enable WebOS accounts on demo models. The stores shouldn't have sold them in the first place.

I went to Staples today in search of liquidated cases (to no avail) and of course asking if they had any unsold units (it was worth a try?) and I talked to the store manager; take this with many grains of salt, but he said that he had talked to an HP rep about this Saturday morning and that apparently HP had enough parts to continue building them into October. Could be complete b.s., but I thought I'd share it nevertheless. Also, the notification link: http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/webo...ilability.html

Well, besides minor gripes. Here is the the biggest impression I was left with after using this thing for a day: this thing is one BEASTLY multi-tasker.

I already have WebOS QI installed on my comp but didn't really want to screw with anything and didn't know how to put the preware app on my touchpad. After doing all that, it's wayyyyy faster. Just a quick google search proved it. The search came up instantly.

I'm a little hesitant to overclock seeing as since there's no warranty I don't want to overheat this thing and be left holding the stick. After those tweaks I don't really see a need anyways.

My god, I love this thing. Sooooo glad I decided to go to staples that morning.....

EDIT: Also, it now boots wayyy quicker

EDIT 2: Just timed it, booted in 28 seconds

As long as you didn't get a demo, HP will honor the 1 year warranty.

Just came across this video on YouTube. Looks to be a simple act to be able to 'tweak' this. Looking forward to getting that tracking info from BestBuy!
