4 Weeks gone -> Rig dead

Thread Starter
OK, I was away for about 4 weeks now and just returned to my home and tried to power up my PC. Nothing happens, screen stays black, HDDs and fans spin up but screen remains in standby.

I already tried to remove power and bios battery for about half an hour with no changes. And checked all the cables of course.

any further ideas?

Did you check and make sure the GPU is in correctly?

Reset CMOS. Plug in a speaker to your mobo and see if it makes any error beeps. If it does, refer to your mobo manual.

Does it stay on if you leave it on? Could possibly be a dead GPU. Try using the onboard video instead of your GPU.

OK, just plugged out the GPU and used on-board with no difference, the PC stays on. I dont have a system speaker here but as far as I can tell, the HDDs do spin up, but there is no boot sequence (with hearable HDD access) going on.

So you don't even reach the BIOS screen. Even with faulty components you should reach the bios as long as the mobo is intact...this may sound stupid but double check the source on your monitor if it has hdmi/dvi, and maybe try different hdmi/dvi cords.

If that doesn't work i would try using an alternative monitor/ television. Essentially trouble shoot any video issues that may have arisen before delving into the case.

done, no difference....

what brings me to the question why a mobo should be destroyed by not being used for 4 weeks.

my monitor does recognize it when the cable is removed. The "check cable" message is displayed then. When the cable ois plugged in, nothing is there....

If you have a spare video card I would try that. Maybe gpu died while you were gone.
