Very weird display issue - hdmi/display port or dvi?

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, yesterday I experienced a very weird problem with my monitor/desktop and I finally got my desktop back to working status but I still want to figure out what is wrong. I have a DELL U3011 monitor that does 1600p, and running 6950s in crossfire. It is connected by *display port*

What happened was I turned off the computer to go out and get some food, when I got home I turn it on as usual but if anyone has a dell monitor you know it will go blue led when it has a signal, and orange led if it is in power safe mode. Well the computer is on but it alternates between blue/orange, sorta reminds me of an engine that is struggling to start in a car.

So I don't understand what's happening with the PC, then I change input mode on the monitor to my PS3, which is connected through HDMI cable and the monitor displays with no issue.

I then pull the HDMI cable from my ps3 and then connect it to the 6950's hdmi port, and voila, an image shows up but hdmi can only do 1080p so i'm not running native and that's no good.

Finally, I dig up a dual-link dvi cable and connect monitor to PC, and now everything works as it should and I have 2560 x 1600.

My quesiton is, why will display port fail like that? Is it my GPU or my monitor that is the problem? I tried disabling x-fire and just use one card, but display port still won't work.

I've never had anything like this before because the monitor and gpu are functional, but an aspect of it (display port) will not work. Should I contact Sapphire and replace the cards? Any input (no pun intended) is appreciated.

Have you tried a different DP cable to rule out the possibility yours is faulty?
