RAID Question

Thread Starter
So is it possible to run RAID 1 at the same time as RAID 0? Like, can you run 2 hard drives in raid 0 (alone) for the speed, then 2 more hard drives in raid 0 (alone)? ANd then run the one set in raid 1 to the other set for the reliability. So running 4 hard drives in total, and having sick speed along with reliability. Possible?

yes you can set up different arrays on the same controller

You can also run RAID 1+0 or 0+1 (it sounds like you're copying the contents of the RAID0 array to the RAID1 array). I know you specified "alone" but it may be more convenient to just have the controller/driver do it for you.

Cool, thanks

What you're referring to are 'nested' RAID levels.

RAID 0 + 1 = A mirrored copy of a striped set.
RAID 1 + 0 = A striped copy of a mirrored set.
