I'm a PC gamer (obviously) and I've started making commentary videos over game play of various games. Currently I am using Fraps to record my game play but as i'm sure a lot of people know Fraps is laggy as hell...

*read PC specs below*

For example I would usually get 250-300 FPS running Call of Duty 4 in max settings and in 1080p but when I use Fraps the frame rate drops to around 20-40 or in Minecraft I would get a wide range of 300-700 FPS but when recording with Fraps I would get an inconsistent 20-60 FPS...

When recording I want the best quality of game play (preferably 1080p) but currently I have to record all of my game play in 720p to get a stable 60 FPS, which I don't really mind although for more strenuous games like Batman: Arkham Asylum I have to lower the recording resolution and the in-game graphics settings (like turning off AA or specular/glow effects) . Ive realised that I wont get a great performance increase with any other software

Anyway, my question is about getting a PVR for PC, I have looked around and seen various TV/PVR cards that slot in to a PCI-E x1 slot and I am wondering if that is what I could use to record game play (or just whatever shows on my screen) without any lag or performance repression...

...I know these types of cards are used to watch TV on a PC but I am wondering if they can be used to record whatever shows on my monitor and if not perhaps I could get a suggestion of some piece of hardware (preferably under £100) that I could use to record what shows on my screen (in 1080p)

Any help on this subject would be much appreciated... thank you for your time
