Hi
I have owned two X58 boards and both northbridge runs very hot.
does someone know if there is a particular motherboard brand of X58 that runs cooler than others?

thanks for any advice!

No.
A chipset, is a chipset, regardless.

Generally, the bigger the heatsink, the cooler the chipset is going to run.

If practical you could also attach a fan to the X58 sink. This works best on boards with pin or fin heatsinks that don't have any sort of decorative cap, or funky design that would limit the utility of cooling coming from above.

I have a fan pointing at mine, a low speed one, even then it still gets to 55C~. Gets to 70-80 without, I think they are just hot chipsets.

Only way to really lower the temperature would be a fullcover waterblock.

ok thanks for replys, mine is the one in my pic its a the rampage 2 gene and the north bridge goes to 87+ degrees without any cooling over it but now with the 2 fans i put over it
around 63 idle and when gaming gets up to about 68. i love this board btw
thing is when i get around to putting it inside a case im gona have to figure something out to keep it cool, maybe i will use a spot cool or might change the northbridge heatsink to something better do you know of any northbridge heat sink that fits the asus rampage 2 gene also one that has a fan or can have a fan mounted onto it?
thanks for any advice
