Trying to create junction from ssd downloads folder to harddrive

Thread Starter
My ssd runs out of space mainly because the downloads folder builds up over time. I'm trying to make a junction through command prompt from :

"C:\\Users\\Robert\\Downloads" to "D:\\Downloads"

in command prompt I type:

mklink /j "C:\\Users\\Robert\\Downloads" "D:\\Downloads"

But once I hit enter its reads:

"Cannot create a file when that file already exists"

I believe I have to rename the downloads folder on C to something else, then delete the renamed folder once the junction is created.

Can anyone please help me clear this up? thanks

No what you have to do is copy the folder to D:\\folder\\ and then delete the folder on C:\\folder\\. Then make the junction on C:\\folder\\ which links to the real folder on D:\\folder\\.

You could just right click the Download folder -> Properties -> Location to change it instead.
