[GT/Bonus Round] Michael Pachter talks about the limits of future gaming consoles

Around the 38 minute mark Michael Pachter states that future hardware will be limited by the fact that the human eye can only see around 60 FPS and that the display limit is currently 1080p.

In his words, he manages to say, “…the limiter is the human eye which is kind of topped out at 60 FPS and display, which today, is topped out at 1080p…” and then he is interrupted.

A lot of people argue that they can tell the difference between 60FPS and 100FPS.

Either way, the only way forward is to increase resolution and adding more detail.

A lot of people complain that 1080 is holding resolutions back, but let's face it, even the best of GPU's cry at anything over 1080 unless you throw a ton of money at it. Once hardware improves, the way forward would be to increase resolution whilst trying to maintain a playable FPS.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulllllllllllllllllcrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappppppppp.

Get the guy off the stage, he has no idea what he's talking about and is just spouting things he's heard on forums. The human eye is capable of seeing well over 60hz, 60hz is just the current limit of most monitors. I sure as hell notice a difference on a 120hz screen. Additionally, no one will go north of 1080p if you don't support >1080p.

Complete moron. Worthless video.

Oh gawd not the 60fps argument...
most people that get a 120hz monitor(or a 3d ready monitor) can tell you they easily see a difference in smoothness, and many of them have a better reaction time.

I do agree that sony needs better cost management skills and that 1600p-4000p would have too high of a cost for the console market.
However saying a games price would need to go up as a result is dumb also, many games are limited by space and ram, which is why they use lower resolution images, the jump to higher resolution for that wouldn't costs that much at all.

However I believe we have a bigger limiter at this time, it is called the gimmick limiter, gimmicks like shotty motion controls and bad 3D are going to hurt the launch titles of the next generation, just like they are hurting us now on console.

Micheal Pachter.

Aka "Market Analyst".

Aka paid off to sell subliminal gaming/tech propaganda/agendas to uneducated masses regarding X subject, while attempting to pass himself off as someone who actually know what he's talking about, let alone care.
