what if you game on one monitor while you have just the desktop or an application open on the other? would it still make little difference?

You'll more likely to get higher frame rates with overclocking your i5 2500K and of course more if you overclock your graphics card.
Very true. A 2500K at 4.5GHz will murder GTA IV.

I'm probably just going to stick with a 1GB 560Ti Hawk. As long as I can at 1080p max out, for the most part, GTA IV, DiRT 3, F3AR, and BF3, I will glady save $50 and get the 560Ti, haha.

If it would, you wouldn't notice it. But I doubt it does.

Price consideration
The price of the green and the red are competitive.
GTX560 Ti 2GB and HD6950 2GB both sell at around US$265 while their 1GB versions sell at around US$215.
So, basically ~$50 to buy 1GB more. (Newegg prices)

Performance consideration
For GTA IV (with everything maxed at 1920x1200), the 1GB vs 2GB (GTX460 SLI) is:-
48 fps (min) / 57 fps (ave) vs 55 fps (min) / 59 fps (ave)

Note Figures 31 to 33 in this link:
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/8016...ream-card.html

So, is $50 justified to buy the additional fps?
OP can answer this question himself.

I NEED it to be under $1000. I literally can't go over that. Like maybe $1 over, that's it.

I would like to get a Twin Frozr III 6950 2GB, but then my PC will be $1037. Literally the only thing I could downgrade on my PC would be going from 8GB to 4GB of RAM but, for what I do most of the time, I don't think that would be a wise decision.

So I guess I just answered my question, lol.

I wouldn't suggest wasting a dime on a card with more than 1GB unless you had very specific plans to play games at resolutions exceeding 1920x1200.

Actually I just chose a 2GB 560ti over the 6950 because of the 560ti's great overclocking abilities, more shaders and the fact that only a few 6950s which are around $320 now can run dual BIOS while even less don't have the shaders cut.

A lot of memory really isn't necessary unless you are playing on huge resolutions or on dual monitors. I am getting the 2GB 560ti's because I will run dual monitors and want to be able to hit some heavy openGL rendering. 2GB cards are also a good little safety in case you ever want to run in Crossfire/SLI. The amount of memory you have in Crossfire/SLI is only the amount of your lesser card so if you have a 1gb/2gb, you have 1gb DDR5 effectively. If you start with a 2GB card you can run two in Crossfire/SLI and have the full effective 2GB. The memory does not stack.

Hope this helps! I had been set on the 6950 until yesterday, do some research. If you want gaming, the GTX 560ti is a far better card for you. Hope you're satisfied!

If you are playing at 1080p or less a 560ti hawk will probably out perform a stock 6950 2gb (in my experience with the cards). plus you get cuda and physx

If you play at a res higher then 1080p get a card with 2gb of vram. Also, stick with the 6950 2gb if you are planning to do a multi monitor setup for eyefinity.

Most games? I've got More then a handful that do... Hell some of the older games such as WoW has more then occasionaly broken the 1gb Vram limit that people say it won't.

You are confused here, you have memory bandwidth mixed up with memory size.

Bandwidth is the speed the memory can be accessed and is measured in GB/s.
Memory size is mesured in MB/GB and is used to store data such as your games enviroment textures.

Speed and size,2 very different aspects of Vram both affecting performance independently.

I play at 1920x1200 and hit my Vram limit of 1.5GB quite often.
Most games i play exceed 1GB on a daily basis.

Hell World of Warcraft exceeded 1.6gb in heroic icc 25 and that was a good 8 months ago or so, I don't do 25's anymore, i only do 10s and i easily break 12-1300 at 1920x1080
