Need skyrim build, 2k budget

Thread Starter
Ok, so my wife's cousin wants a gaming pc and asked me to build him one. His only instructions to me were " it has to max out skyrim". I told him for 1500 he could have a screaming rig, and he said to just build him something with a 2k budget. I'm thinking 8gb ripjaws, i5, maybe a 6970.

Can be full tower case and he needs everything but a monitor as he plans to use his tv.

Rep for all good suggestions!

Motherboard: Asus P8P67 Pro $159 with code "ASUS67MB10"
PSU: CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 $159 after MIR
CPU: Intel 2500k $180 at Microcenter
Memory: Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 2000 $139
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 $50
Cooler: CM Hyper 212+ $28
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB $114

--
GPU (If you want SLI): 2X EVGA GTX 580 1.5GB $459 x 2 After MIR
OR
GPU (If you want a single card): MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition GTX 580 3GB $599
--

Which would put you at $1807 after $50 in MIR's for SLI
OR
$1488 for non SLI.

This leaves some left over for a case, cooler upgrade... Whatever you want.

These two have a combo as well that saves $23. $336

Which would put you at $1800 total. Before MIR's.

This leaves about 200+ left for a case... Which is pretty much personal preference for him.
Thanks! I should have mentioned that we have a microcenter here and will get the proc there for 180. Probably newegg for the board tho, thinking of the Asus p67. Will rep when I get home!

Oh, also he says he doesn't care how cool it looks, he just wants good hardware. I also want there to be headroom to sli/x fire as well if he ever wants that.

Might as well SLi right out of the boat. With a 2k budget, you can probably wiggle something in with 2x GTX 580's especially since you have a microcenter near you, you can save quite a bit!

TBH, that isn't really possible yet considering the game isn't even out, but it is still easy to make a rig that WILL spank it. I would say what you have selected should do just fine, I am thinking that my sig rig will be able to max it perfectly fine. Nyates' build looks perfectly suitable for the task also, just be careful with those MIR, they are sneaky ways to make a build look cheaper, just make sure they get sent in. If he isn't planning on overclocking AT ALL, you could go slightly cheaper and get the regular i5 2500, if he has a microcenter nearby, that would be the cheapest route for CPU + mobo.

If he wants to save money, you could get him 2x GTX 560 Ti, plenty of power in a set of 2 to woop any new game in the bum. Nyates' rig also left out a CPU cooler, I would recommend a Corsair H50 or H70, only around $60-80 extra.

He will be overclocking because I am helping, though he doesn't know it yet. Probably a mild oc, like 4.5 or less.

Ahhhh. If you're going to OC him a bit, I would probably get something better than the 212+ I recommended above. I edited the original post like 9 times, so I'll just link the coolers down here.

- $80

Noctua NH-D14 $85

Corsair H80 $91 (On full fan speed, she's a bit noisy)

Just call ahead make sure they have the 2500k. My buddy drove 40 min to get one for $180 and Rockville MD Microcenter didn't have any in stock. This sounds fun here's my attempt:

Case: NZXT Phantom $125

CPU: 2500k $180

Mobo: ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 $199

PSU: Seasonic 750w Gold Class/Modular $140 with promo code HARDOCPX817A

GPU(S): 2 EVGA GTX 570's $648 Shipped. $588 after MIRs.

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB $58. $43 w/ promo code DEALMONGO (or $49 if it's 15% off and not $15 off)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1866) $70

Cooler: NH-D14 $76 Shipped.

Mouse: Razer DeathAdder $48

$1529. $1469 after MIR

I would have gone with 1 or 2 6970's if they weren't out of stock everywhere.

Thanks guys! rep for all. I'm thinking about the vid cards, I can't believe that one 580 wouldn't max skyrim out. what do you think? we can certainly do 2 570's, I know damn well that would max it out.
