When your planes cost 1/10th as much, its less of an issue if a few more get shot down.

This isn't WWII and in the days of 50-500 million dollar planes that you only have a few hundred examples of, the plane is worth more than the pilot (though many wouldn't admit it).

How many nations are in on the F-35 again?

Better to make a profit than to try to conceal the unconcealable.

Russia won't likely be including their best avionics/radar with the exports, and everything else is likely already known, or easily found out, by any other first world nation.

you know there's some prototype somewhere that just got green lit by some agency. part of being the #1 military superpower is letting the rest of the world know just how far ahead we are. winning wars without fighting them.

you see a street fight developing, one guy pulls out a knife, the other guy pulls out a smg; chances are the guy with the knife will change his mind.

Considering the ridiculous amounts of cash we throw into military research I sure hope we're a little ahead of Russia. It's some cool tech, and that cool tech should be appreciated. The title of this thread isn't "RUSSIA AHEAD OF US : DISCUSS".

I like to believe that we have evolved to such an extent not to let another world war happen.
exactly. mankind should unite under one common banner and prepare to expand into the stars with all of our military ready exterminate xenos.

It all comes down to the pilots. And the US is FAR ahead of anyone in that aspect.

*Edit* Also that looks like the F-23.

Just an FYI to people:

1)PAK FA has now been in testing for quite a while.

2)PAK FA's development stemmed in the 1990, even though Russia was in financial trouble. Competition was the Mig 1.44 which only 1 unit (or so) came to light. That program started in the 80's and was around the same time as F-22 was in development.

3)PAK FA is not necessairly a stealth aircraft, but a Low Observability aircraft. It is mean to heavily reduce its radar signiture, while incorporating L-Band antenna's and X-band AESA radar. L-Band antennas to pick up other Low Observability aircrafts at long distances (Since stealth is only stealth against X-Band).

4)Russia isn't behind in the game, since USA fields little F-22 (BTW, development is closed) and F-35 is facing lots of problems and costing way too much and isnt out yet either.

5)Design doesn't have anything to do with the F-22. Take a look at the Su-27 aircraft and compare it to the PAK FA. You will see where the design is stemmed from. If you want to play this game people, then take a look at the Mig-25 and the F-15, and say who stole who's design

6)none of the payloads are going to be outside of the bomb bays.

There are plenty of other points. My opinion? I don't think it will actually come out in siginifcant orders, unless exported. What I think they will do, is either come up with a Mikoyan alternative using a lot of common parts, but being cheaper, or using the same tech on current generation aircrafts like Su-30(series), Su-34 and Su-35. Or, make this an interceptor to replace the Mig-31 and use alternatives for main airforce.

If you guys want to know more, ask the people over at mp.net. They are much better at this.

And you know this how? I would have to say Israeli pilots are extremely well trained. But this is coming from people I know who serve in the Canadian Airforce.

FGFA should fill most of the sales. Since it is also that India is help paying for FGFA, it should make things a lot cheaper and easier. The sales can be huge. Vietnam, Venezuela, India, Indonesia, Algeria, etc are all potential customers.

MAKS: Pogosyan says market for 600 PAK-FA fighters
By Murdo Morrison

United Aircraft president Mikhail Pogosyan believes there is a market for 600 of the Sukhoi PAK-FA fifth-generation fighter, which finally made its public appearance at MAKS and is due to enter service with the Russian air force in 2015 or 2016.

USA and Russia do things differently. Majority of Russian R&D are done through state run corporations. In this case, they control the actual budget themselves, rather in US, where it is running off of a cost + 10% (or more) due to the corporations being private (Lockheed, Northrop, etc). The only corp in US that is a state run that the budget actually gets them somewhere, is DARPA. This is why Russia can spend a lot less and come up with competing equipment (T-90A, Su-30(Series), Admiral Gorshkov, etc).

I always loved the guessing game. Part of you guys being the #1 military power in the world is the fact that you guys over spend on the little stuff, and the R&D are usually getting canned. IE: The EMG (Rail gun in this case), F-22 being scrapped, replacement for the Trident missiles, Airborn laser project, etc.
