New build at a 1.4k USD budget.

Hey all, I'm a bit new to the PC gaming scene. I've got a ****ty computer now that I can run some old games on, but I've been saving and now have the money for a new PC. I need some help building it, though.
I need something for pretty serious gaming, I'll be playing FPSs and RPGs for the most part. Also, I've got a keyboard, mouse and monitor, but I need an OS.
Side question, how long would this PC last?

OK I left you $100 to pick out a case cause thats all personal preference. however i would suggest the CM 690 II Advanced for a good choice of case. Dammit forgot a cooler...

EDIt drop the 580 to a 570 and pick up an NH-D14.

Motherboard: Asus P8P67 Pro $159 with code "ASUS67MB10"
PSU: CORSAIR Professional Series HX1050 $159 after MIR
CPU: Intel 2500k $180 at Microcenter
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X $69
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 $50
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 $85
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB $114
GPU:EVGA GTX 570 $340

Which would put you at $1156.

That leaves you come wiggle room for windows XP and a case...

You want a PC what will kick ass for at least 3 years and one that is some what future proof and has room for upgrades later on

Awesome! Now will this build run most games?
The above build is a VERY solid build. You will be able to max/near max out all of the current titles on the market. Plus you have huge upgrade room down the line. I'd go for it.
change 570 for a 580 and you will for sure be very happy with that
I should game.

And will it be able to run some of the big ticket games coming out soon? Like Skyrim, BF3, MW3 etc.?

I know you chose the 2500k processor but lets not assume that there will be any Overclocking... The system is for his friend and not for him, and if his friend is asking him to do this task for him than I would assume he is not much of a computer savage as the poster
