Are you sure this will run Napolean Total War on the highest quality settings? What about Shogun Total war?

And

If I decide to overclock it, is the ram you selected the best one to overclock it with?

And

Do you think the extreme4 is better than the extreme6? Or did you choose extreme4 because its a little cheaper?

EDIT: The reason I dont want to buy nvidia is because I used to have a computer 4 years ago, and I bought 3 different geforce 7800gs video cards and I had problems with every single one of them. 2 of them stopped working and one of them had a very noisy fan, probably not enough lubrication or they installed it incorrectly, it made an extremely loud whistling noise.

The NVidia you knew 4-5 years ago has been dragged out and shot by todays new NVidia. They are a superb company now and honestly I prefer them over todays ATI/AMD. Its almost as if they have switched sides. Only thing I can figure is that NVidia fired the morons that screwed them and AMD/ATI hired them on.

ok so Ive been thinking about the video card and I guess if everyone else agrees with eric (post #11) that nvidea is better than ati, I will be getting the gt570 video card. I liked every other suggestion daniel made and this was another one of his suggestions.

EVGA GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) HD 2560MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

And it looks like it is better than the radeon 6970.

That's likely the exact 570 I would get. If you can stretch to 400 however, is look around at some 580's. They are definitely a step above the 570 and the 6970. Deals can be found for around 420 or so. You should definitely stretch a bit in graphics so you don't turn around and have buyers remorse set in. This of course the most important component for takers like us. Also the 6xx series will be out soon, giving you more options and driving down 5xx prices. That being said, the 570 you picked with the extra vram is the one I would go for most likely.

Here's a great article on the differences in chipsets. On another note, you're gonna be blown away by your new rig. It will be amazing.

edit: re the i7 960, its ok CPU, but not as good as the 2500k.
you better take this one.. i7 920 is not near as good as i5 2500k..
thats why everyone has i5 2500k cause its awesome overclocker and awesome chip..

if you are stupid go for i7 920 waste more money for lower performance and poor 45nm crap.. have fun ignor all of us.. GO AHEAD

Rebates are iffy, and can be a pain. But here's a 580 for 430 after rebate. Just be care ful to really think it our, because it'll likely be a while before your next upgrade (judging by your Sig rig)

Zotac reference I've heard good things about.

I made a long reply two days ago, but it hasnt shown up??

anyways, Ive finally decided that Im going to get the gtx 580, a cheap one but not too cheap. Then Im going to get a water block for it too. Since getting a 3gig hydro copper is way too expensive. Ive decided on getting a water system for my cpu and gfx. Ive been scouring the internet looking for quality water systems for the last few days. I figure that with water cooling, Ill be able to overclock it to at least be close to the 590s performance(even though 590 is just 2 580s each on pcie 8x bandwith).

Im pretty much set on getting the 2500k, the 2600k isnt so much better that its worth the extra 100$. The only thing I dislike about the i5 2500k is that it comes with a completely useless graphics processor that Im paying for and it doesnt have hyperthreading. Its even more useless since Im getting an insane video card.

Im definetely going to go with the p67 mobo chipset, I still havent looked at which board to buy, Ive always liked asus. The same thing with memory, although Im thinking g.skill. Ill start researching for the mobo and memory after I find a good water system. And probably a case that is open so air can easily get in and out something like this LanBoy Air.

I was thinking Id go with a h50/70(h100 is a little overboard in my mind) and a similar pre-installed watercooled gtx 580, but then I figured it would be more fun to assemble the system, and probably cheaper too. I have access to a garage, filled with tools and welding equipment, so I might even go and buy a fish tank pump and make my own system, but Im not sure yet. I really dont want it to break and spray water on everything.

Im open to suggestions on water cooler, mobo and memory.

ASRock P67 EXTREME4 Was an interesting suggestion for the mobo, but would it matter that Im putting a gtx 580 in it(mobo=pcie3 gfx=pcie2). The other thing is that, I would like to upgrade the pc by sli'ing a second gtx 580 next year maybe, since Ive seen the benchmarks and it literally doubles the gfx power. But this mobo doesnt have 2 pcie 2.0 16x lanes, so thats something Id like in the mobo. It really sucks that when you sli, a lot of mobos half the bandwith so you end up with a sucky 590 instead of the insane power dual 580s could be.

BTW I havent bought a new pc in a long time because Ive been busy with a lot of things, its just recently Ive been playing games again. And I can spend up to 2000$ on a new pc, but since Im not the one whos paying for it, Im trying to keep it closer to 1000$.

The main reason I want to buy a new computer is because Ive fallen in love with the total war series. Which reminds me of a really weird review I saw that shows the gtx 580 being tested with shogun 2
This is the link: xbitlabs review of shogun 2
Basically it says that even the gtx 590 was getting avg framrates of 35 fps and dipping as low as 28fps, and this is with an i7 975 extreme(quad core, 125w TDP, $1k). I guess Im buying a small monitor.

Was my reply too long?

Ill sum it up.

Basically, Im going to get a water cooling system. A cheap gtx 580 plus a water block. A 2500k.

I wanted to get an asus extreme 4, but theres one big reason I dont like it, you cant have 2 pcie x16 slots for sli. Another bad thing is that you only have 4 ram slots.

Anyways, I need suggestions on a mobo with 3 things
1. I can sli at x16 for both slots
2. overclock the 2500k
3. has more than 2 ram channels

Not that important but: Im still confused about how ram works, I know timings are supposed to be lower, not higher, but I dont understand why 500$ ram has 9-9-9-20 timings. Isnt expensive ram supposed to have tight timing? or does it really cost +500$ to ensure 4 to 6 pieces of ram all have the same moderately tight timings? Ram doesnt really give you more performance anyways right?
What I do know is that 4x2gb is better than 2x4gb.
And 4x4gb is better than 4x2gb.
