Painting not working out so well

I've been trying to get my video cards painted to match my case theme a little better. Just upgraded to an ASUS z68 v-pro board and my 2 red ati cards were clashing a bit too much for me. So I was trying to paint the heat shink shrouds. I stripped off the stickers with a heat gun. I'm using valspar brand primer, black glossy paint and clear coat.

My first card I sanded and with 800 and primered it with 3 coats. I sanded them all with more 800 after about an hour of dry time. Then laid on 4 coats of glossy black sanding them with 1000 and then 1500 on the 4th coat. After that I did 4 coats of clear with another hour between each coat. The first coat I gave 24 hours but the last 3 had 1 hour dry time. No sanding was done until 48 hours after the final coat and I used 2000 wet. I finished it with some 3m rubbing compound to try and make it shine and remove the scratches.

Here's the results. The finish feels smooth as glass but I still feel like there's a lot of fine scratches left visible in direct light and the color looks blotchy. I'm looking for any advice what I did wrong or need to do next to fix it. I've done a little more looking around and seen polishing compound but I don't know if I can expect that to fix up all my issues here. What do you guys think I should do next?

The scratches are more circle in person.

Look at the blotchy color in this one.

Did you use self Etching primer? IMHO when painting metal and plastic using self etching primer is the only way to go.. This is my primer of choice... Then I use a rattle can put a coat on, wet sand, put a coat on wet sand, and one last coat and wet sand with 2000+ grit.. By this time it should have a mirror finish..

I've never seen anyone do this before. Haha. I doubt any imperfections will be visible once the cards are installed in your case.

that Valspar stuff was absolute crap...i did my all my plastic with Rustoleum (no primer)...but i switched to Valspar in a pinch, and my GPU shroud came out like poo. Sanded it all off, got another can of Rustoleum the next day and was all set. Mine has nearly a mirror finish with no sanding between coats.

{uZa}DOA did you use anything after sanding like polish or rubbing compound? I lightly wet sanded the clear with 2000 and I thought it looked awful.

No probably not but thats why I started with the graphics cards. I want to paint other stuff in the future. So I will need to improve my technique. If my case looked like this I would go crazy staring at it all the time.

after wet sanding about 3-4 coats i let it sit about a week then use a rubbing compound to buff it out.. Sorry I forgot to add that..

Thanks pb4ugo. I was wondering that a little bit. I guess I went too budget thinking it's just spray paint. I can't really just sand it all off though because there's lots of vents and the ati letters pressed into the top edge of the card. Is it possible to use paint thinner or will it melt the plastic?

i can't say for sure Sinlock...my gtx550 has no real nooks and crannys like yours. can you test it on the side that's not visible when your card is in your rig, or some other discreet location?

my little secret... 3M rubbing compound after paint

Makes Rustoleum look like Auto Finnish.
For primer on plastic I use Rustolium plastic primer, as it bonds to plastic at the molecular level "supposedly "
