[Newegg.com] Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 Limited Edition 8GB-$44.99 FS and gift

Thread Starter
Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 Limited Edition 8GB (2x4GB)
$44.99 with free shipping and a free game.

Seemed to me like a decent price on 8GB of some good RAM. No rebate needed and a free gift, too.

The voltage on this RAM is kind of high compared to Ripjaws.

Why is that?

Apparently the voltage is high so it can be overclocked to ddr3 1600 - Kingston RAM above 1333 is set to 1333 by default and then needs to be overclocked to reach the quoted speeds.

My Ripjaws run at 1600, and they're only on 1.5V.. what makes these need higher volts? I've seen other brands as well use 1.5 for the timings/speeds these ones have.

I'm not sure. I remember reading that somewhere about them though. I'm looking for the information on their site right now.

Edit: I can't find it right now. I'm probably thinking of something else right now... I have no idea where I read that so... Also now when I look at it my RAM is at 1.5V too...

shouldent be any difference, theres some good 1.5 ram and theres some 1.7 ram. etc

it depends on the cheap, the lower votage ones i think can only be pushed to like 1.8/9 while the 1.6 to like 2.1 etc.
