Laptop for school

Thread Starter
Another one of those "help me find a laptop" threads.I realized I'll need one for school. It doesn't need to be all that powerful (my stationary rig is fast enough when I need it), but I'd really like something of decent quality with good looking screen and okay battery. I've actually been looking at this one. Is it any good? I'll probably install linux on it for now.

School work, browsing online, occasional light AutoCADing and photo editing

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
No, but i'd like decent quality.

What screen size do you require?
14" is probably ideal.

No problem with refurbished.

Zork at maximum settings.

Doesn't matter.

Anything works.

Is there anything else we need to know?
Thanks to all contributors!

I've been looking around for you, having trouble finding something with that resolution on a 14" screen in that pricerange.. I'll keep looking though.

Edit: I already saw these but it's out of your pricerange..

The Thinkpad T420 would be a great option if you can handle the extra price, it can be upgraded to a 1600x900 screen for $50, and the build quality is excellent on Lenovo's.

That's the one I would get if I was in the market for a laptop with 1600x900, I know it's a great computer.

Edit 2: I just noticed you had already posted that computer. Hahaha. How funny we posted the same one. I say go for it.

Thanks, it does look attractive. It seems out of stock at the outlet though.. Do you know if it possible to get a discount if I do not want a windows license from Lenovo? How much would the discount be?

A man has just purchased an overpriced, underpowered, overweight, poorly equipped, and altogether wrong laptop computer for his daughter's first year in college. As a result, netbooks are actually quite a good choice.

Yeah, I suppose netbook would be a consideration. Though I'd really like to have at least half way decent amount of screen real estate.

I guess I'll have to call Lenovo. Thanks anyway!
