Tj.Max Spikes

Thread Starter
Running both Core Temp 1.0 and CPUID Hardware Monitor for core temps during Prime95. I do get a spike - albeit extremely momentary - in one or more cores to 98C. It doesn't consistently show up on either tool.

Is this truly happening or am I looking at a software glitch

First time poster. Not looking to do anything other than eke a little bit more from my cpu while trying not to reduce my system longevity.

P8P67 Pro 3.1
i5 2500K
Hyper 212+
Adjusted multiplier to 42 in BIOS.
Set RAM timings manually
Read up on OC'ing this board here as well as clunk.org.uk
Temps are in the mid-50s to mid-60s during torture test.
Idle temps around 30C

I'd appreciate some feedback. Thx.

I used a razor and laid a thin coating across the processor. I don't think there were any gaps.

I see the spike in the maximum window - it happens very fast. I failed to mention this is a new build so perhaps that plays into it. I ran it again and didn't see anything over the last hour. Also to be clear, the spike may show up on one program on one core but not the other. That tells me it happens between the polling period so it is a quick spike.

I pulled the 212 off my old E8400 but couldn't remember how to apply the thermal (how much, where, etc.). So I applied it like mud on drywall.

I ran Prime again and had the AI suite running the temperature graph for an hour along with CPUIDHM and RealTemp. No spikes seen. Maybe just growing pains on a new system?

And I promise not to use a razor in the future. lol. I guess that must be a static shock hazard huh? I'm old but trainable!
