Hello

I'm wanting to change my CPU to a e8600 and want to know if i can simply turn pc off, take out old cpu, insert new cpu, turn pc on and everything works or do i have to flash the bios to 'recognise' the new cpu.
Please Help

probably so as you are going from a 65nm Allendale 800FSB to a 45nm Wolfdale 1333FSB

I would make sure that your Dell mother board supports it first and if it does...then you probably don't need a BIOS update.

However, Dell doesn't just make a BIOS update for performance or ease of use reasons. If there is a BIOS update it likely is to correct a flaw and some time are for support of newer CPUs. So i would do it if there was one one available. They are all done in Windows and are pretty easy

Katmandu2,

The fastest Core 2 Duo I've seen listed for an Inspiron 530 is the E8500. I would also think the E8600 would work since it is a 45nm and 1333 FSB CPU as well, but don't know that for sure.

Does this mean it will work and i dont need to flash the bios?

It seems that the Inspiron 530 is built around either the G31 or G33 chipset, if the Dell manual I found here is correct. Both these chipsets should support the E8600 as a drop-in replacement, though I would still update to the latest BIOS just to make sure.
