Mw2 wasn't that bad. But MW3 and BF3?

These new shooters...what's to stop me believing that it's just the same old rehashed stuff over and over. And what's amazing is people keep buying them because it has a some pretty new wrapping on it...maybe new killstreaks, new weapons, better graphics, etc. I mean there isn't much more you can do with these military type fps shooters it would seem.
wow! i think you're the biggest troller I ever seen.

For every military fps there are of indie platformers and JRPGs littering the market, also doing nothing to drive the industry forward.
The FPS hate argument is ridiculous.

It seems like the "military" shooters are the same rehashed stuff. The only thing different is that games get more buggier, and your forced to buy dlc. COD4, you didn't have to buy dlc, all extra map packs were free.

MW2, MW3 is really more of the same old stuff. Except now you pay for dlc, etc. That's not moving forward.

So, you single out a SPECIFIC category (military) shooters, and then complain that they're all the "same?" What would you like, a military shooter that takes place on a farm, where you shoot individual wheat blades, help Farmer Brown milk cows, deploy a UAV over your 300 acre farm to find your kids, then throw a flashbang in the kitchen and ask your wife if dinner is ready?

That's like saying, "Golly gee, all SPACE shooters are the same rehashed stuff, they take place in space and all you do is shoot stuff!"

And being "forced" to buy DLC? Is someone physically putting a gun to your head, making you type in your credit card info and hitting the "submit order" button? No? Then you're not being forced to buy jack.

As far as moving forward - so basically, you expect developers to spend their time making additional content OUTSIDE the bounds of the original core game, and give ALL of it to you, including future content, FOR FREE? And that's your definition of 'moving forward?' And games getting buggier? Really? Have you ever worked for a software development company or ever touched software that was FLAWLESS and never needed any patches or updates? Didn't think so.

This thread gets my vote as the most ignorant thread on OCN for the week, and it's only Monday...boy, the sense of entitlement some people have is amazing...

So you like paying for DLC even though it use to be free with these types of games?

Honestly, who likes paying for ANYTHING? If it's worth it to you, buy the DLC. If it's not, don't. No one is forcing me to buy ANYTHING. It goes for ANYTHING in life. Is it worth it to you? Buy it. Not worth it? Don't. Sure, if we could all get things for free, who wouldn't? Life's not fair, boohoo.

And no, DLC, hasn't always ALL been free with ALL shooters like MW and BF. Pretty sure that Battlefield 2's expansion packs cost money $15-20 each I believe, and so did 2142's Northern Strike expansion, etc. DLC that adds a good amount of content (Battlefield's expansion packs were always vast, and included new maps, weapons, vehicles, gadgets, etc. and were well worth it; Bad Company's Vietnam expansion was also worth it; same game, sure, but it was more guns, a completely different atmosphere with new maps, music, voiceovers, vehicles, etc. On the other hand, each CoD map pack in my opinion has a been a total ripoff, and guess what? I didn't buy them and I went on living my life).

Just because a developer/publisher dishes out free DLC doesn't mean they're going to give ALL future content out for free - a business is still a business, and most people understand that development time/costs costs, well, money.

Bottom line, if the DLC is worth it to you at the price it's released at, buy it. If it's not, don't. It's a pretty simple concept, and no one's forcing you to buy DLC. Again, lose the sense of entitlement.

I think he's saying that the only great titles, in terms of shooters, are always the same; that they are rehashing the same old formula for success, and it's getting slightly old.

It is.

It'd be nice to see someone take a new perspective on shooters. Something that emphasizes stealth, perhaps, and/or makes you scavenge for your ammo in a multiplayer scenario right from the start of the game so you have to rely on CQC and stealth to find ammo without being killed, or kill an enemy player to gain that advantage.

Something good, and different -- I believe this is the point OP was trying to get at. I also believe that developers are afraid to take risks on new styles of gameplay. They're probably right, because most gamers will go out and buy a title they're familiar with (and already skilled at) before they'll go buy something totally different. We also tend to flip out when people change the franchises we love.

At the end of the day, it'd be nice to see the kind of money that goes into CoD of Battlefield, go into something totally new. I think that's what OP wanted us to derive from this topic.

So what your saying is that I shouldn't call out these companies for selling a rehashed pc game over and over in this PC Games forum...and you think that some how this translates into a sense of entitlement. Why have reviews of products? Do all reviewers then have a sense of entitlement?

"Rehashed" is a subjective term. That's YOUR opinion. And guess what, as "rehashed" as Battlefield 3's MILITARY SHOOTER formula is, it works, and it's going to represent ITS SPECIFIC GENRE for this generation of DX11 MILITARY shooters.

You obviously have no clue what you're talking about; you can't single out a SPECIFIC FPS genre and then blab about how the formula is "rehashed." Seriously, that's like saying that Madden NFL 2011 is a rehashed game year in and year out! NO DUH, IT'S A SPECIFIC FRIGGIN' SPORT! You want a game about a new sport? GO OUT AND MAKE ONE THEN.

If you want a different type of shooter, make a thread about your desire for an FPS that's not MILITARY based. Otherwise, what do you expect from MILITARY shooters? Asking a developer to come up with a NEW GENRE of shooters is FAR AND AWAY different from complaining that they're not making a military shooter a farm simulator.

And also, the sense of entitlement comments were directed at your posts where you complain about being "forced" to buy DLC, or that DLC should ALWAYS be free, cause that's the way *SOME* DLC had been in the past (not ALL, which is what you ASSUMED, and you didn't know what you were talking about with regards to free DLC in the past either).

Yeah, the shooter genre can use some innovation, but at the end of the day, it's going to be a new genre. And If the OP is complaining enough about the lack of innovation in FPS games, he obviously hasn't been playing enough FPS games - there's literally one that takes place in every imaginable place with countless different settings and storylines. It just sounds to me that all the hype about MILITARY shooters compelled him to make an ignorant post about wanting a new style of FPS game but pointed the finger at military shooters for sticking true to their INTENDED gameplay design.
