My problem is card utilization. It goes all over the place making for a unplayable experience in some games. I was correlating what I thought was a low graphics 3dmark score to the gpu usage acting up.

What could be causing this? I've changed the power setting to maximum performance, moved between drivers, vsync on or off doesn't matter. What else is there for me to do?

what do you mean by card utilization? what games are you having problems with and what is unplayable? lag? artifacts? stutter?

give us some detail

Example 1: GTA IV. I got 17fps on the benchmark and that was with a mix of high/med/and very high or two setting. Talking with a buddy at another message board he is running the ICE GTA IV mod (which is way more intensive) at the same settings as me (he also has a 580) and he was averaging 59fps. That's heavily modded. I don't have any mods yet. He also mentioned that his gpu usage stays around 98%-99% which obviously results in a smooth experience. My usage goes all over the place which is resulting in the game being unplayable. Even if GTA IV is a bad port I should not be experiencing what I'm experiencing on my hardware.

Example 2: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. Same thing. Usage goes all over the place. I've talked to others who don't have this problem at all and are even running it with SSGAA.

I just feel like something isn't right here. As I've mentioned I've tried different drivers and this still happens. I spoke with someone who said he sent his Asus DCII 560ti back for a refund because he had similar issues.

are you using afterburn to monitor gpu usage? I can't speak for GTA.
but forget the gpu usage going up and down for a sec, how does nfs play?

Well I just played it and it was a constant 60fps. I tried GTA as well and it hit 99% usage as well. It didn't stay there dipping to the 80s now and then but it was smooth. All I did was check "Force constant voltage" in Afterburner. I'm also running it OC'd to 850mhz with voltage bumped to 1075.

Any downside to leaving that forced constant voltage box checked?

When I was gaming it was on stock though. I just moved it up to OC setting to give it a try and then the utilization went up and stayed constant in GTA IV and then my experience with NFS being very smooth. So would that indicate that at stock, I was undervolted?

Tried again today...The results below are from the MSI logs:

As you can see my utilization is all over the place. At this point I don't know what is going on. I've disabled every GPU program, gone back and forth between drivers. I'm pretty much out of options here.

Can anybody suggest something that I may not have thought of or overlooked
