asus p8p67 pro second motherboard please help

Hi --

My last Asus p8p67 Pro motherboard was faulty and kept giving me CPU Fan Error messages, and it never recognized my Samsung F3 HDD. My build has the Samsung HDD, Crucial SSD and Asus DVD. I RMAed it, got a new mobo, and same error messages though this time in the BIOS Boot Drive I could see the HDD. I disabled the Marvell ports, so no longer get error message after Initializing... Hard Drive Not Detected.

What happens is the system will not recognize both the HDD and SSD together. It does, though, always recognize the DVD. I've unplugged the SSD and this motherboard, unlike the last, recognizes the HDD. I unplug the HDD and it recognizes the SSD. When both HDD and SSD are plugged in, the Boot Priority only shows the DVD and the HDD, or the DVD and the SSD, but never both. However, in F8 Boot menu, I see the HDD and the SSD as well as the DVD.

This is my first build, and man, this is very perplexing not to mention frustrating. I don't know why disabling the Marvell ports in the BIOS made the Hard Drive not detected error message go away. I remember reading to do this, and it seems to work, but I'm at a total loss at to what is wrong with something that should be so easy yet for me is not.

Advice please.

Troj

Make sure you're using the Intel ports and not the Marvell ports (if you have them disabled then I assuming you're not using them). Also, make sure your SATA configuration is in AHCI mode and not IDE.

I would go ahead and continue with your Windows install. If you get to the Windows install point where it has you select a drive and both are listed, then you're fine. P8P67 Pro has some weird problems sometimes where it doesn't display drives correctly or won't display them until they're UEFI w/ windows installed.

Thanks Zzari. I spent 3 hours with Asus First Tier support, and they didn't know how to fix this. Tier 2 did, in 2 seconds. I did have to disable the Marvell ports, and the new BIOS Boot Priority only lists two drives since you're not booting into multiple drives. The CPU Fan Error! is the easiest thing. My H100 has a 3-pin fan cable so I plugged it into the 3-pin input on the Motherboard where it says CPU FAN. The tier 2 rep told me to put it this into the 4 pin input which is right next to the 3-pin. I inserted into 4-pin. No errors, at all. Great board, looking forward to downloading my software, but if anyone has questions about Asus motherboards, I recommend you ask for Support Level 2. If you don't, you might spend hours without resolution. Asus is amazing, and that Tier 2 tech support person fixed my issues in under 5 minutes. And yes, I reset the SATA configurations to AHCI. The Tier 1 support told me to do IDE. Tier 2 said NO.

When was your Samsung HDD manufactured? It may need a firmware update for LGA 1155 boards.

The CPU fan issue is bloody easy to resolve. Just go into the BIOS and disable CPU fan monitoring.

Hi SimpleTech. Thanks! I'll do this. The CPU fan error message went away when I plugged the H100 cooler unit's 3-pin fan cable to the 4-pin CPU Fan input on the motherboard. The 3-pin gave an N/A in BIOS for Fan info, and I kept getting that error message. The 4-pin works. BIOS shows the fan rpms and no more error message.
