UPS Recommendations?

Thread Starter
So, last Friday we had a pretty intense thunderstorm with power outages and whatnot, so it made me want to find a UPS.

I found this APC BR1500G on newegg, what do you guys think?

I would like to have around 10-15 minutes at least of battery time, and my budget is around $200, but I would be willing to spend a bit more if its worth it.

Just for reference, my PC pulls around 525 Watts according to http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

I just picked up 3 of these about a month ago, in preparation for the stormy season here.

http://www.quill.com/catalog/browse/...Number=BR1500G

It's the newest model which I believe replaces the XS series. It supposedly acts as a powerline filter also. We have 4 of the XS 1500's in service at my work and have been very happy with them.

I have my sig rig and monitors attached to one and it says I'll have 24 minutes of run time in case of failure.

I haven't been able to find them anywhere but Quill unfortunately. I think that's because it is a new model, but luckily for me we have a Quill account at work.

You would probably do well with any of the APC lineup. I have used them in my home for years with no problem other than having to replace a battery in one after about 4 years.

Just my 2c worth...hope it helps,

Rich

I agree with Lost Hawaiian.
I also have an APC XS1500 and it works great. No issues.
I said it in another post last week, best money I've ever spent.

Ok thanks guys! I think I'll go for it. The one listed on Newegg has RS in the title, so it should be the updated model, right?

You're right...I looked at your link better and it does indeed appear to be the same as I linked. The specs look the same.

The first time I looked I saw the price and figured it was an older model. I paid $219 apiece for mine (well, the company did).

From what can see, I would say that it is the updated model.

You can also check out APC.com as well to compare. Just to be sure.

It depends on how much power your computer is actually pulling. This BR1500G is only rated up to 865 Watts, so if your computer wants more, the battery backup isn't going to be able to keep your PC running.

For me, even though I have a 1000W PSU, my computer doesn't actually draw that much power. Since you have a 6990, it should add about 200W to my system (~525 W rough estimate), which will bring you close to the limit and may only give you a few minutes of power.

I ended up ordering mine off Amazon with 2-day shipping, and it says it will arrive on Wednesday, so I'll post my results once its charged up and I have a chance to test it out.
