What sub and sound card to go with BX5a's?

Thread Starter
So i am planning on buying a set of BX5a's, a sub, and sound card for my computer.

I have been snooping around the forum and a few of you guys recommend the Dayton 120 sub to go with the BX5a's. Is a 12in sub really necessary? I was thinking more like an 8in or maybe 10in. Can you guys recommend a good one?

And what do you guys think about the Asus Xonar Essence STX? Would it work well or is it overkill?

Thanks
>Ryan

I would recommend mine (Velodyne Impact 10), a solid 10 inch at around $220. I'm currently using them with a pair of Cambridge S30s which also sound amazing. Velodyne is also far superior to Polk.

For sound card i got a x fi titanium with my bx5a's + dac destroyer. Works great. For sub i will recommend a custom made sub+enclosure. Otherwise the Polk Audio PSW10 seems a good choice

Hmm about sound card/DAC :have a read @ AVS/Head-Fi forums about Musiland Monitor 01/02 DAC vs PCI/PCIe sound cards : these can be found $80-120 so might be up your alley as far as bang for buck is concerned tongue.gif

Edit : someone from our forums got a hold of these hehe

I can recommend the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB as an external sound card. The KRK RP10s also gets good reviews, looks pretty sexy too. Do a bit of research on gearslutz.com for stuff like this too.

What's your budget? If you do have a budget then you'll probably end up with a Xonar DX.

For a sub I like the way mine sounds and it looks a lot nicer than a black box. Got it for $200 of Craig's which is a great deal in Canada. Jamo is owned by Klipsch btw.

Thanks for the feedback. I should have pointed out in my first post that i would prefer an internal sound card and i want to try and keep the price of everything below $700. I also dont really need a super loud sub. The sub that is in my logitech z-530 is loud enough for me. That's why i'm leaning towards an 8 or 10in one.
